Back in November, I bot my first cell phone, a Droid, that is a smartphone(i.e., you can get on the internet, it has a built in GPS, etc.). I have already dropped it about five or six times. All my previous cell phones were just basic cell phones, i.e., they only had the ability to make phone calls and take photos, and of course were a lot less expensive. I never dropped any of those phones even one time.
This morning my Droid went flying out of its case onto the ceramic tile floor. The battery went in one direction, the back cover in another, and the phone's main body in yet another. Fortunately, it still works and I don't see any cracks in the screen or otherwise. Which is good since it would cost about $500 to replace it if I didn't have insurance, which I almost refused when I bot it.
So I'm just wondering if other people also drop their cell phones, especially if you have done it more than once.

LOL! We have an old flip phone on one line on our
family share plan for my husband's fish business, and it was ringing one time in the car. My husband was on his phone on a business call and we were all trying to be quiet so I opened it and kept tapping the screen to 'ignore' the call. My kids were trying so hard not to make too much noise laughing at me and failing miserably. We all kept getting the 'glare' from hubby and finally the phone stopped ringing. AFterwards my kids were dying laughing at me, "MOM! It's NOT a touch screen! You have to push the buttons!" We get so used to our new technology so fast!

I'm embarrassed to even take it out to make a call..
Plus, it's bright pink!

What is an Apple Tablet? I need a new laptop computer too.

Lol, so true about the flip models, seems just yesterday that th
as much as I love my Droid, I know that it will be so yesterday in just six months or less. The "toy" I am most looking forward to now is the upcoming Apple Tablet.

oh yea and I washed it twice!
I've dropped it and it fell apart. All went back together and it works fine. I washed it in my sweatshirt pocket twice. Still works, but I want a new one. It's a flip and they are soooooo 5 minutes ago!

Re: O/T: has anyone dropped their cell phone more than once?

Yes
I have dropped my Blackberry Curve countless times in the last two years. Also the extent as you, with parts flying, put it back together and it always works.

That was my thought too . . . "I only need it for phone calls"
but then I saw the Droid close up. The screen is utterly gorgeous and bigger than any other cell phone. And being able to get on the internet and read BDW, etc., 24/7 is just awesome, especially when waiting at a doctor's office, at the oil change place, etc. So I started off shopping for a basic cell phone, thinking the exact same way you said. But the Droid completely changed my mind, especially since I got it for only $99, which is how much I would have paid for a cheapie basic cell phone. But my previous 2-year contract was almost up, so the salesman told me I was eligible for $50 off the price if I renewed. When I hemmed and hawed a bit, he knocked off another $50. Plus the phone was eligible for a $100 rebate. So I got $200 off the $299 selling price that Verizon charges with a 2 year contract. For that price, I couldn't say no.

It really is amazing, tho, when you have internet access in your pocket 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, just as tho you are sitting at your computer. Smartphones like the Droid, iPhone, etc., are just incredible. Especially the apps. It is amazing what they can do. There is even an app that can start your car for you. The Droid has a built in GPS that is just like having a TomTom, etc., in your car. And my favorite app is called "Movies." When you click it on, it will not only show the name and address of every movie theater within 20 miles of wherever you are, it will give you the show times, a map to the theater, and even a link to IMDB.com.

All teh time. On tile, carpet, under horse hooves....
and my phone has kept on working each time, no matter how many pieces it was in after the fall:-) But I also have insurance on mine just in case:-)

I have a cheapie and have dropped it hundreds of times
I have thought about getting a Droid but honestly, I only need a cell phone for phone calls. I have dropped this phone tons of times. One day I was riding on the golf cart and (quite sober, I might add) leaned over to get my pack of cigarettes that dropped on the floorboard, for some reason, I didn't let go of the steering wheel. The cart swerved, I lost my balance, I went rolling off the cart, the cell phone busted into 3 pieces on the street and the cart ran over it before it jumped the curb and stopped in an empty lot. I limped down the street picking up the pieces and the phone worked fine. Figure I will stick with what works.
Add flying over the top of a horse and landing on the ground to
Just did that today, and even though my phone was in three pieces when I finally found it again, it worked fine when I put it back together:-)
Amy and Sophia
I did that with my last cell phone, fortunately it was a cheapie
and, much to my surprise, while it would not work right away, I tried it a few weeks later and it did work.

I'm hoping, tho, that I never wash my Droid.

From 15 ft.
My son is an engineer where they make HUGE mining trucks (they make normal pick ups look like Matchbox cars). He told me yesterday his cell phone for work fell out of his pocket while he was up on one of those trucks checking something. It fell about 15 ft. hitting the concrete floor in the manufacturing area, but said it was still working fine.
and in the washing machine
Just last month I left it in my coat pocket and washed the coat in the machine. I think it would have been ok if I had dried it longer. I dried it off and took out the battery. Waited 45 minutes. Everything worked except the ringer. Well that's a major problem when you want to know if someone is calling you. After the fact I read that I should have put the phone in rice for 72 hours. And then it would have been ok. Good to know for the next time.
