O/T - Clingmans Dome in Tennessee - Vacation (PIC's)

The dome itself. You have to hike a half a mile to get to it.

Dome name information f/ Gary
Reputedly known as "Kuwahi" (the mulberry place) by the Cherokee Indians, the mountain was originally dubbed "Smoky Dome" by local Scots-Irish inhabitants. In 1859, the mountain was henceforth renamed for Thomas Lanier Clingman (1812-1897), who extensively explored the area in the 1850's and spent many years thereafter promoting it and was also a lawyer, member of the U.S. Congress (House and Senate), and a brigadier general for the Confederate States of America, by compatriot Arnold Guyot.

We live in Sevierville and yes the mountains are beautiful but dealing with the traffic is hard sometimes
live out in the county outside Maryville, Tn.
our home was built 2 years ago and we like to call it (our lodge home) being that it is so rustic and cozy.............

beautiful place Tn/NC Mountains
We live in Knoxvile Tn and go to the mountains all the time. We went to Cades Cove and drove the loop road last week-end. I'm on Fall Break from teaching this week and we plan to take my 31/2 year grandson to the mountains for a short hike. We might try Clingman's dome depending on the weather this week. Love this area!!!!!!

very nice, affordable, and in gated community with a golf course. Best of all, it is not crowded with alot of traffic and people and you are only 20 minutes away from Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
