the cartoonist is an editorial cartoonish in Denmark who drew a cartoon of Mohammed that was published in a Danish newspaper. That was followed by riots and threats by Muslim fundamentalists, including a previous threat on his life. The cartoonist has since been hounded the way the novelist Salman Rushdie was a couple of decades ago.

A few weeks ago, another fanatic broke into his home and tried to kill him. The cartoonist and his family, including his 5-year old daughter, survived by hiding in a panic room. The existence of the panic room has now been reported in news media all over the world.

I can't believe the media even reported that he has a panic room in his home. The next attacker will now be sure to bring explosives or something else to blow up the door of the panic room, or just set fire to the house. Don't get me wrong, I love a free press, but sometimes they should sit on some news and think about the harm they will do if the instead publish it. Back in the 1990s, U.S. intelligence agencies were listening in on all of Osama bin Laden's phone calls because he was using a satellite phone. They also were to track his every move because he used such a phone. But sure enough, some reporter found out and published the story. Without any regard for how many people would be killed because bin Laden stopped using a satellite phone when he too learned of the story.

It's hard to believe that the news media stayed mum back when FDR was President rather than report that he was wheelchair bound. No way would that kind of compassion and decency happen today.
