Maybe this isn't completely off topic since Boo, Scout, and Atticus (aka "Cat Bastard") all got their names in whole or part from the novel/movie, <g>.
The reason I ask, tho, is that if you love either the book or movie as much as I do, a new book was recently published that is a biography of Harper Lee. The title is "Mockingbird." I love it so far. It tells the whole story of how Harper Lee struggled to get her novel published, and also provides a lot of interesting stuff about her friendship with Truman Capote (not sure, but I think they might have been cousins, haven't gotten to that part yet), including a lot of what was shown in the recent movie "Capote" (if you haven't seen it, Boo rates it very highly). The book also has a lot of fascinating info on who the characters are based upon.

A wonderful narative, very informative too. I should get the biography, I'm sure it'll be good
Watched it a while ago...
...and thought of your gang! (How could I help it!)

Haven't seen any mention yet
but I've only read about 40 pages so far, plus a lot of skimming.

Well now I want to read it ! .... question ....
Has there been any mention of her being acquianted with Jackson Pollock ? According to my friend, they ( his mom and Harper Lee ) were also friendly with Pollock durign the last year or 2 of his life. My friend's mom was/is no-one of notariety .. she was just a receptionist for Eastern Airlines... lives in Moorestown, NJ now

Wow, that must be worth a lot now
the biography goes into her experience working for the airlines, among the many tidbits in it. Another tidbit I liked was about the different titles the novel had. I can't remember the original title, but at one point it was simply called "Atticus" and then finally called TKAM.

Gary, the mother of an ex-boyfriend of mine worked with Harper Lee in NY when she worked for Eastern Airlines . He ( th ex-bf ) has an autographed first edition of "To Kill a Mockingbird ", with a personal inscription, as well as her autographed essays that were published in Vogue. It IS one of my favorite books.
