OT - anyone have a good remedy for mosquito bites??

All this rain and they are getting bad here ....and itchier too!! I feel like dog with his hind leg scratching!

Thanks and happy monday everyone!!

White Vinegar

Its supposed to help stop itching and take the sting out.

Here's an odd remedy, but it was on the Today Show yesterday a.m

They were discussing summer and things to do about a variety of issues. One was to use a cold compress of skim milk on bug bites or stings. It has a natural chemical that takes the itch/sting out according to the lady who was on the show. I thought I'd file this away in my memory for the next itchy bite and try it.

Itch stop pens

You can get various brands of itch-stop pens at any drugstore. Also, you can take a wash cloth, wet down a corner with really hot tap water (as hot as you can stand) and touch it to the affected area for a few seconds. You may have to dab it instead of holding it on the bite. That will stop the itch.

Did you know

that you can use Aloe to shave with too. I was reading our Aloe bottle and it has a lot more uses than I realized. I've been using it on my scars and they are slowly fading away. Hmmm bugbites, that's another one.

Have you tried icing it/them a bit?

I did a quick search too and came up with this list of home remedies for mosquito bites. Hoping you find one that helps!

STEP 2: Avoid scratching. Although a mosquito bite should itch for only a few days, continual scratching will increase your discomfort and may prolong the itching.
STEP 3: Make a paste of baking soda and water, using just enough water to make the paste sticky. Spread the mixture on the bites.
STEP 4: Rub soap directly on the bite. This is an oft-repeated home remedy for mosquito bites.
STEP 5: Apply an ice pack or ice wrapped in a washcloth to the bite area.
STEP 6: Use calamine lotion or a topical anesthetic containing pramoxine to help relieve pain and itching.
STEP 7: Purchase 1-percent hydrocortisone cream to alleviate the itching. Follow directions on the package for safe use.
STEP 8: Use an anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen to reduce any accompanying swelling or redness.
STEP 9: Take an anti-histamine like benadryl to help with any swelling or itching.
STEP 10: Do not rub skin, soak instead of scrubbing, and pat dry instead of rubbing.
STEP 11: Use aloe vera gel to reduce swelling and itching, aloe vera also forms a protective layer, to reduce possible infection.

I just had an email a week or so ago about spraying

LISTERINE around and on yourself with a mister type bottle!

perfume

I usually scratch it or dig a finger nail into it first, then I spray a quick squirt of my toilet water. It burns for a sec and then the itch stops. You could use calamine lotion but depending on where they are, you don't want pink blotches all over.

At least with the perfume, you're gonna smell nice, wherever the bites are You could also dab some rubbing alcohol on it.

$20/hour.....

we've got the welts to prove it! Thankfully the itching has subsided and they won't be doing repellant testing till October again. Really good money, sadly all of it goes to the bullies!!!

Haha...that is funny, I"ve never heard of that...thanks Phyllis!
...I could get a papaya too hmmmm

SCOTCH TAPE!!!!

Just get a strip of scotch tape, the kind you would use to gift wrap presents, and cover the spot with them. My brother and I just signed up to do mosquito repellant testing (crazy I know) and we got bit like nobody's business!!! Before I slept it was my daily routine to cover all my spots and the entire night I'd be good. Then in the AM, after my shower, I'd do the same thing with covering my spots with tape!

I heard clear nail polish does the same thing... Good luck and let us know how it goes!

This is true....my Aunt, who was a nurse, use to tell

my Mom to do this with me for skin problems. I am so fair just saying the word "sun" makes me burn so my Aunt use to tell my Mom to make a bath of milk & cool water and lay in it. It helped....took the sting of the burn out and delayed my peeling....(which was usually the next day)

I put Benedryl cream on my son's bug bites...

His swell up to huge welts! Just like how I used to react as a kid.

Good luck Pam!
