And then I'll try to leave this alone...I promise! I know the protein percentages that's right for a bulldog but is there an optimal # of calories a growing bully pup should get per day? I'm feeding Tuffy about 1,600 calories a day ( his current puppy kibble has a protein level of 26%, 16% fat and 535 calories per cup.) One of the als adult foods I'm thinking of transitioning him to has 370 calories per cup with a fat level of 15% and the other is 405 calories per cup with a fat percantage of 16%. Both have about 3-3.5% fiber. Do these percentages sound about right?
Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback!
This is very reassuring. Just curious...how many calories does Ozzy get per cup?

Ozzy
We followed the directions on the bag of food for Ozzy and he was either always throwing up or pooping up a storm (6-8 times a day). Then a friend told me that the directions on the bag are to get you to use and buy more food. We now give Ozzy a cup in the AM and a cup in the PM with a few cookies thrown in and he is maintaining at 55-58 lbs

Great feedback, Lisa!
Thanks, Lisa!! It is a big help. build! I also emailed Fromms asking about the feeding guidelines. You raise an excellent point about the fact that these dogs don't burn that many calories. Tuffy isn't exactly running all over the place, except when the kids are around. I do take him on a short walk now that he can walk on a leash but he goes real slow... Lately he seems content to lay in his doggie bed and chew his bully stick (or a treasure he's not supposed to have.)
Puppy kibble and amounts
I have always found this such a gray area lol. I had Mabel on puppy food, but my vet explained to me that Bulldogs do not have the type of growth spurt that can be seen in some other breeds and even though bullies can be incredibly athletic, they usually do not sustain that activity level for a long period of time therefore, they will not burn calories at the same rate as some breeds.

In a nutshell, I was advised that quality of food makes all the difference...one that does not have an abundance of fillers or poor quality protein content. I never had Sid on puppy food.
I also find that feeding instructions on packaging are all over the place. On Fromms, they advise 3 cups per day for a 50lb dog. Sid is 55lbs (3yrs old this May) and I only give him 1 cup when we get up and 1 cup in the late afternoon. They also get a treat/biscuits just before bedtime as they both are quick to throw up bile on an empty stomach
Mabel is a peitie girl and has always been around the 40lb mark She is currently 43lbs at 4yrs old.
Not much help, but hopefully it explains a little bit lol.
