once a day eater...normal????

Mack is not a morning guy...he'll go outside to do his business and sniff around a bit but then settles in for a 3 hour nap. My Shi Tzu and Chi are all about breakfast so I feed them between 8-9. Mack doesn't even lift his head for this event! Sometimes I'll PULL him out of his recliner and try to encourage him to eat. Salmon oil on his NB, bits of chicken.....maybe 20 % of the time he's interested. Soooo my question is can I just skip breakfast with him and let him go until dinner? I thought bullies were supposed to be piglets? Oh and by the way Mack is a very healthy 70 pounds, not fat, still has a "tuck". He'll eat 1-1/2 cups then walk away.....The mom in me wants to see him chow down like a good southern bullie!

uggie is not an AM dog, he sleeps until between 10 and 12

every day. We feed him at around 2 (my husband is home in the day) he usually eats 3/4's of the bowl and saves the rest for a "snack" when he comes in from his last walk at night! I tries feeding him in the early morning for a long time and it would just sit. Auggie is no skinny minnie either he is 80lbS.!!!!

I only feed my bulldogs once a day, except when they were puppie

I do however give them treats during the day and at bed time.

re:feeding frequency

My Doyle is 6 1/2 now.
When he was younger he would hoover anything in site in seconds and then look at me like " where's the main course? "

But somewhere along the last couple years, he's pretty much self regulating to the point where it kind of feels like free feeding. I only fill his bowl twice a day, but he will sometimes eat right away, sometimes leave it for hours, sometimes eat only a portion and finish later.

If at the end of the week you've gone through a normal amount of food and he looks and acts normal, I think you have a great thing going!

Let him....

If he looks fine, acts fine, let him manage his own food. If he's hungry he'll know where to go to!

Some dogs do better on two meals, others on one meal...

My dog gets two meals a day, but if he has eaten a lot the day before, he'll ignore his breakfast. He'll never skips his dinner, because that is meat and he likes that more than kibble.

Your bulldog know what he likes

Bulldogs are not all vacuum cleaners. Come eat once a day, some are fussy. Maybull chews each mouthful. She does't get up until late afternoon and may or may not have her first meal. If you dog isn't having digestional problems because of the one meal urppy or rumbly tumble I don't think you have to encourage him to eat when he's not interested.

Maybe a small dog cookie, if you are worried.
