ok so my bullie is on the skinny side! Why does everyone seem to want to point this out ??

Ok so today we were off to Dr. Butchkos. Lil Angus has a sore on one of his toes. Looks like a lil rasberry. So we got meds and etc. So while we are waiting this guys starts in on me (you know,,, the Know it all kind of guy) You bullie is too skinny. Didnt you know you need to feed him raw meat to beef him up!?
Ah noooo I have never read this... This guy started picking lil angus apart. Why did you get a white bullie?? Dont you know they have skin problems??? And dont you know this, and dont you know that. And he has long legs and blah blah blah. All the time his poor lil one was soooo dirty for sure an outside bullie. I could go on and on but i feel so sorry for the poor thing. Ok so now that I am upset. Anyone feed raw hamberger to beef up your bullie??? I like Angus and he is healthy. We walk him 2-3 miles every morning and http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de/dogrun.gifnight!!! Ok hes got long legs but he has NO breathing issues and I LOVE HIM THE WAY HE IS!!!!!!

He looks great

and that a$$ was just being mean. I got so tired of some jerks saying that Theo was so ugly he was cute that the last one that said it I told them that they should go home and look in the mirror. I am so mean LOL.

what I would do..

Just smile and walk away.

Angus...I tell you handsome you have to learn to raspberrie thes

Stephanie....okay Steph..here's my take..rude is rude..if you want me to listen then show repect...and putting down any aniamal is not showing respect...
Angus is healthy and goregous...
so here's MoJo's law..and my rules for dealing with high steppers and hot air balloons...
choices:
1.say to no one in particular but loud enough for him to hear...angus lets move over a bit...too much hot air blowing in this spot.then walk away...
2.what I call the one two punch...
say .."Now I am curious"... (gets a sound off person every time..cause they think your actually listening to the hog wash they are spilling...
followed by the punch.."why would you ask me those things...?" look shocked and confussed and walk away...
3. you and Angus practice your raspberrying in unison ..and use at will...chuckle..then walk away...
4.this is my favorite cause they get confused..
say Why thank you ...and you have a nicer day too"..and walk away...
5.after the first negative comment ..just walk away...
6.throw up on his shoes...no need to say anything...walk away.
7. say "you must be terribly unhappy to be so unkind?I am sorry and wish you joy.."
and walk away very quickly ..this one sometimes can bring a punch...

my point...walk away..every time you ever in your life receive unkind words...always concider the source..if that person isn't someone you value..then their words have no power...every village has it's idgets...it's a pity some have been taught to speak.

hugs to you and the awesome healthy..and delightful all round radiant Angus!ce

People are just so unhappy-people say to me "only a mother could

And I think Molly is a doll ... I just ignored it ... the only thing that matters is that my hubby and I love Molly - I've even been told by people to not feed her so much because shes so big, and um bulldogs are built to be a little heavier ... just makes me laugh.. dont let it bother you, Angus is a doll

The guy has no self-esteem

Criticizing and directing others is the only way he can feel good about himself.

People like that don't realize how badly their approach back-fires.

I have a very good friend who is an AKC Judge. She is a wealth of information on a number of breeds and I love watching her interact with exhibitors and other dog owners. She gives direction and helpful hints, but in a mannner that is so respectful and caring. One cannot help wanting to do exactly as she suggests.

my thoughts

Don't be so nice. I can tell you are a really nice person. This guy likes to hear himself talk. Next time ignore him - get up and move, take the dog outside for a "potty walk" or soemthing. Don't let people poison your mind with negativity and make you second-guess yourself and your feelings.
If you want to be nice to him - be perfectly honest "I appreciate your opinion, I am sure you have great experience with your bully, but I want to see what the licensed vet says."

Love that thwack smiley!

Critics

It's funny to read your post that little Angus is too skinny. All we ever hear about our Annie from non-bulldog people is that Annie is "too fat", which she isn't at 48 lbs and 8 months old. Anyway morale to the story, you know your bullie better than anyone else. If he is healthy and happy, ignore them and enjoy your pupster!

Some thoughts.

sounds like this man was obnoxious. He had no reason to analyze your bully. He's not a vet.

If he can walk 2-3 miles, that is great! His getting exercise may be one reason he doesn't have excess fat. If he eats his food well, I wouldn't worry. Do you free feed him? Is there food left in the bowl so he can come back for a snack if wanted. If so, then I guess he gets what he needs. If he is picky, adding something irresistable like canned food or meat might help. I wouldn't start it unless you need to.

I know that I look at Flora one day and think she is getting too fat, another day think she is too thin. I weigh her and she virtually stays the same. I don't know what it is, a visual illusion perhaps. If I have boarded her at the vet for a week, I think she is skinny and feel guilty. She is a very picky eater. She was fed cooked food a lot before I got her by the older woman who had her who believes in this. She eats meat over her kibble, but it is a lot of work for me. I have tried every idea I could have on how to substitute something easier to feed her. Admittedly she does the best this way. I still can't believe I am doing this. I mentally can't deal with the raw food bit. I just have a block.

I would take a good breathing, loving, walking bully any day over one that can't move. It sounds like this man wanted his bully for it's looks, and people don't need them for looks only for their loving personalities. My sitter took Flora to the vet for me one day about a week ago, and a man went gaga over her. My sitter was actually afraid of the man, and that he would take her, and made sure he didn't follow her. People like that don't need bullies. If I get bad vibes, I say, They have so many health problems, I wouldn't get one. They cost tons of money at the vet to discourage them. The thing about the people on this board is that they appreciate bullies for all the good reasons to have them that is why I love the board so much.

Angus is fine the way is he

He is healthy and happy and that's what counts

don't listen to idiots..

n/m

People humpf........

Stephanie, you never please everyone. As long as Angus is happy who cares... Enjoy your bully, lots of love and kisses!

That jerk was jelous

Angus is so sweet. He is only a puppy. That man had no right to say anything. Lily gets Wellness Lamb and rice and dog treat and an occasional jumbone. No human food whatso ever and she is fine.

different view

some well known breeders like to keep puppies a little overweight until they are about 1year old. This is to develop bone and muscle mass. My self and many bulldoggers feed raw and/or cooked hamburger to their dogs to put weight on. If you keep a dog to skinny as they are growing they might not develop the chest and bone they will need as they grow.

He might have been trying to help you but was not the most tactful person. He could have been a wonderful bulldogger in the area.

My favorite is....

just to tilt my head to one side and kinda smirk/smile, and go "mmmm." and start baby talking and smooshing his face up. People get the hint. I have had someone ask me if he was a pitt-bull cause he looked mean.

ha ha...I also had a guy tell me he loved my mean dog...(Henry was licking the window of the car waiting for me to get in it...ewwww) Ask me if he was English and I said "yep. He is a sweetie". -Guy told me he had one just like him at home but brindle. Said it was a boxer. Go figure. People are absolutely clueless. lol

Too skinny (???).... :(

From this guy's behavior he's not a Ph.d nor a vet,
so what does his mis-informed, inaccurate and ego-testicle (no typo) opinion matter?
Feeding raw hamburger to a dog is not good. Pieces of raw steak, yes. Hamburger is a mixed preparation, and
bacteria can be mixed throughout.
I'll give Arthur raw pieces of venison steak, but not to 'beef him up'. Consider your critic to be a moron,
pity his bully(s) and keep doing what your doing...being a great bully mom!!!

Re: I dont see anythign wrong with Angus...

Im like way nice girl.. i dint say anything just "oh really" "yea, ya think" "hummmm" "might have to try that" I did tell him I loved him the way he was. He got the hint after that. He said "oh no he is so clean and white" blah blah blah......

I dont see anythign wrong with Angus...

at all! He looks like a normal bullie to me! Maybe Im missing something. Besides, I know a lot of people feed raw meat to their dogs, but I dont and Henry weighed 70 pounds a tthe vet this week- and he isnt fat...just beefy! Angus looks great to me!

You should have told him to mind his own business! What did you say to him, by the way?
