I,m looking into getting a laptop........ How-ever I don,t know anything about them,
Is a notebook a laptop?
What does wireless mean? And how how does it connect to the web if its wireless?
o.k. seriosly I don,t understand anything about them can someone explain............
problem with apple is its not good for the everyday wallet n/m
Go straight to the Apple store... do not pass go..
don't worry about all the terminology. Tell them what you want to do and they will hook you up...plug and play.

You will have a photo program, music program, movie programs, dvd/cd player and burner etc etc. ...AND no viruses!!
All of this already on the laptop. The new MacBook would be a great one for you to buy.
I'm huge fan of Apple...great for the everyday user! Goodluck!
Notebook = Laptop
wireless is gonna be standard on 99.9% of all new laptops, but they all come with modems and regular network ports, so you don't need to get a wireless router, even though if you get a laptop from dell or HP you can get a wireless router with the laptop, it basicly extends your network to be wirless like a cordless phone.
its nice when you want to check your email or BDW from the couch like I am now.
I definatly recomend DELL or HP, and check http://www.bensbargains.net for coupons for either as they are posted almost daily.
That was me, not anonymous, sorry

Re: O.K. gota question for you computer literate people........
Christen, I am a Mac user and have a laptop computer. My laptop has wireless technology, you chose from menu a wireless option and there you go, no other cards required, it came with everything. But to use wireless, meaning, no need to hook up any cables to your laptop, you need to purchase a wireless modem (I have Linxys). The beauty of wireless and a laptop is that I am in my bed now with the laptop and no cables to bother me. I can also take it to my garden or any room in my house and surf the internet without any problems. The range for wireless is pretty wide. Also, many coffee shops, universities, classrooms, hotels, even airports have wireless capabilities now. Once you have wireless connection it means you have your wireless modem connected to your computer and your internet provider (we have Comcast here) Modem is what is constantly connected to internet and provides you with the web access.
Hope that answers a bit your question. I am not very "techy". How are the girls today? give them a gib kiss from us.
O.K. gota question for you computer literate people........
notebook or laptop= same
wireless is another way to connect to the network, internet, external gadgets, etc. Basically what you use wires for to connect except electricity.
If you get a wireless you will have to get a wireless router as well so that the wireless laptop can connect or work on a network or get onto the internet.

Your entire life?? Julia how old are you honey??
Hee hee..I'm just teasing you!
Glad you didn't have a virus...I've had friends that have spent lots of $$ on fixing their computers!
Wireless means you can access the Internet without having a dire
connecting your laptop to the wall. Instead, your laptop will have a component built into it that is similar to a radio receiver, and the Internet is transmitted to your laptop in a manner similar to radio waves. Think of it as high tech voodoo. But if you see your laptop monitor sticking pins in a likeness of you, run.

I can even watch TV and record shows on my HP Media Center deskt
I love HP too, especially their Media Centers. They are tailor made for photo and video buffs, and they have a built in TIVO like recorder and TV tuner. Plus, their customer service and tech support has been awesome.

You've gotten good advice!
I have an old Gateway notebook that runs as my server that did a good job years ago, but I would never buy another one. And my husband has an IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad that he really likes.
And I can't imagine life without my wireless network... you will love it!

Bullyfest 2006!
=) And I've had PCs my entire life and never gotten a virus. LOL
It's all in how you handle them.
Loved it! But PCs became so user friendly, it was hard to go back.)

(I did have a Mac Powerbook in addition to my PCs too for 4 years...

I think they are worth it though...
for $1100, you can get a great one w/so many programs already on it.
, it's just nice to have all the stuff already there.
Plus the time and energy to find & put these programs on your computer takes awhile.
For someone that's not as computer literate as you, or super LAZY like me
Alright the new 17"!!
I'm waiting for Illustrator and Photoshop to catch up to the Intel processors.
I'm on the 17" last set of powerbooks. I thought it would be to big to lug around and travel with.
But it's not much different than the 15...which I had before.
I've worked on an Apple since 1988 and never had one...
I know they are out there, but your chances are slim compared to the rest.
I just bought a Sony Vaio. I had a Gateway prior to this one. Ha

HEY CHRISTEN....i have an apple laptop and LOVE IT! its the new.
MacBook Pro. i got the 17". whats really nice about macs....is you can custom order them, and they get to your house within 5 business days, and all you have to do is pull it out of the box.... and turn it on. THATS IT!! they are sooo oooo user friendly its not even funny!!! if you have questions shoot me an email. i can tell you more about macs vs. pcs. BUT...i do recommend that IF you are a computer literate.....then i would HGHLY recommend a mac because they are SSOOOO much easier to work with than a PC.
Good Luck!!
let me know if you have any ??s.

I recomend trying to set it up yourself as the geel squad can be
what you are getting from them.
I agree there are definatly viruses for all operating systems
there are fewer viruses for APPLE/MAC but they are growing as MAC's become more popular so you will soon be seing more and more spyware and viruses for MAC's.
I have a Dell laptop with wireless
and it is the best thing since sliced bread. I had The Geek Squad come out and set up my wireless network and all my anti virus stuff. Highly reccomend everything I just mentioned.
Myth - Apple does not have viruses
wrong, I work in information technology security and Apple does have viruses, just patched for one last week.........
wireless is the way to go provided you receive your internet service via cable or DSL
remember if you go wireless you will needd to purchase additional network appliances to facilitate the wireless operation and wireless is not as fast as wire to wire............
I recommend Dell with their wireless network appliances but be sure to purchase the extended in home warranty so you have someone to call when you have a problem...
D-Link or Linksys are good network appliances..............
Computer security starts at home with a personal firewall and virus protection that is kept up to date - use these and you will have no problems...........
