Hey guys,
I posted about a week ago about my new puppy. Tomorrow's the big day I fly out to get him!!
Any advice for the plane ride home?
I am taking him in the cabin with me in one of those sherpa bags..
I will post pictures as soon as we get back sunday!
Can't wait!!
thanks,
cassandra
make sure you have extra time
once you take your puppy out to go through x-ray you will have so many people wanting to see him.
Be careful, dont let people touch his face or mouth, you dont want him to get sick....
good luck and post pix when you get home..

Can't wait for Sunday
to see pics of your new baby.
I DID THAT WITH OPAL
Hi,
2 years ago I flew from Massachusetts to Florida to get Opal. She also came into the cabin with me in a soft carrier. She slept the whole way in the carrier under the seat in front of me. The plane was full so I really couldn't take her out to play with her.
We had to change planes. We went from 65* in Florida to 16* in Ohio. The layover was just enough time for her to go out & peepee.
I was one of the first to board the 2nd plane. The people around me never knew she was there until I picked up the carrier to exit the plane. She slept the whole way...not a sound.
It was a very pleasant experience.
THANK YOU!!
that is the greatest advice! i hadn't even thought about the puppy pads.. good idea!
it's a very short flight [columbus to chicago] and later in the evening so hopefully he will just snooze.
it would be great if i got as lucky as you to have a flight attendent who would let me hold him. i know i'll want to after months and months of waiting to get him!
thank you again, you've been super helpful!
Puppy air
Cassandra,

Congrats on your pup coming home! We've flown a few as cabin baggage, and found it's helpful (if it's a short flight) to not feed too much the morning before, limit water in the hours before the flight (you can always stealth a few ice cubes to him during the flight), and take plenty of your basic dog biscuits along to keep the tummy settled. We also have a nice soft towel in the bottom of the bag with a disposable puppy pee pad on top (and xtras on hand) just in case there's an accident. A small gumabone and stuffed toy also help, in case of restlessness.
Give yourself a little extra time for security, too, as you'll have to take Jr. out of the Sherpa, send the Sherpa through the x-ray machine, and carry the pup through the metal detector. This exercise can be a little tricky if you're alone, have other luggage, and made a few unwise sartorial decisions that morning that require you to send shoes and other items of clothing through the machine as well
We've been pretty lucky so far (flown American and Delta with ours) - we always seem to get flight attendants who love pups and have no problem with the pup sleeping on a towel in our laps once we level off at cruise.
Hope all goes well, and congrats on your new puppy!
Sharon
thanks!!
i can't wait!
airlines
I ended up using america west, however, they ONLY let pets in cabin.
southwest didn't allow pets in or below, and i'm not sure about the other ones...
i was actually able to find one of the bags at like marshalls or tjmax [can't remember] for almost half off! [they are normally so pricey]. it is the largest one that will still fit under the seat, i think it's pets up to 22 lbs ..
i will let you know how it works out, hopefully he isn't too big for it! haha
Question for you..
What size sherpa did you purchase? And what airline are you using? I am curious, because I am getting a new pup in about a month and am trying to figure out which airline is best for bringing a pet on in the cabin area.
Thanks,
No advise but...
Congradulations and looking forward to seeing pics
thank you

Congrats on the new puppy...
Can't wait to see the pics and let us know how the flight went. I'm planning on buying a puppy next year and may consider buying out of state and flying the puppy home with me. Nice to see that several have done this successfully.
