Never ceases to amaze me how people react to bullies! :-)

We've had our cute Meaty a year now.....NEVER ceases to amaze me that wherever we take him, people go NUTS!!! happy.gif
At LEAST one person (usually more) EVERY single time, says "I want/ wanted one of those"....isn't it funny?
(okay, not EVERYONE loves 'em, of course! The other day he almost knocked this poor lady over at PetSmart because
I wasn't looking (bad mommy!), and he was just trying to get her to pet him....she was NOT impressed! sad.gif

That loveable MUG, those droopy cheeks, sweet personality....!!!
Oh, and when people see him RUN/HOP.....LOL!!! happy.gif

When I showed this pik to some friends, some of them wanted a copy for themselves....seriously!!!! happy.gif
[IMG][linked image][/IMG]

Is it cuz of the short wittle body and the BIG head??? LOL![IMG][linked image][/IMG]

Mommy even has a BULLY on her license pwate!! [IMG][linked image][/IMG]

After a day of people admiring me, I am TUCKERED!!!!!! happy.gif [IMG][linked image][/IMG]

For me....

bulldogs are my preferred *Even though I don't have one in my family YET* breed because of various factors. They don't look like a designer dog *Can't stand those things* and you can't very easily step on them *Like my mom's cousin's 4 legged barking rat*, and yet they'd be a great burglar deterrent. Not many people know enough about the breed to know how much of a pushover they are. Most people think of bulldogs, and remember that they used to have the reputation that rottweilers and pittbulls have now. I have yet to meet a bulldog that I didn't like their personality...and have only met one that didn't like me!

The only concern I have with the breed is one of their more charming features. They seem to be loyal whomever is petting them at the time. Case in point and I felt so bad for this owner I went to a dog show last summer and asked if I could pet this bulldog, well I petted her for a minute or more, and I could tell the heat was getting to her (it was over 90 outside even at 10 a.m.) so when the owner wanted to take her back to their camper where it was cool I stopped petting her. I couldn't tell whether she would've rather died outside in the heat while being petted, or if she just wanted to go with me CAUSE I had petted her. I just know that I stood there not petting this poor dog that wanted to be petted more she even jumped on my thighs for more pets...finally after a minute or so I asked the owner *Cause I wasn't sure* "Do you need me to just walk away?" the owner said 'I think so, and I'm sorry she's never clung to a stranger like this before'. I patted her one more time on the head turned around and walked off. I felt bad for the bully. I didn't even have any type of food or treats so this seemed a bit strange.

some roll their eyes at the strollers, but they have allowed us

it's a long walk from the car to ___________. You can fill in the blank with the name of whatever event you are going to. The stroller means the dogs can come with us! I think every bulldog who enjoys going along with you should have one.

I sometimes take the stroller on Roxy's walk because she only likes to go one direction and she walks too far for her 9 year old body. If I try to turn back too soon, she puts on the brakes and sits. She loves to ride in the stroller, so that solves that stubborn bulldog issue.

Junior hates the stroller, but all the others love it.

first pic is amazing...

great pics
I took Bella to see my MOM for the night and day last week. she is not a bulldog type of person. she puts up with my stories of Bella on the phone but she got to spend some time with her last week for the first time. usually she comes to visit for a couple of hours or so.
now she is calling ..lol to see how Bella is. she says that Bella is not what she expected out of a bulldog..she was quite taken in with her.

Bella was a hit at the PET smart in the city too. lots of people came up to pet her..she rubbed herself on everyone she met.no idea why she does that but she leans into them..

bulldogs are a hit even at the vets office too

hee hee I have a stoller for bella and stops people all the time

Hope everyone has a great day

I agree, Bella goes to doggie camp daily at a Petsmart and takes

forever to leave at night sometimes b.c. everyone stopping me to make a comment or pet her bla bla.. I Do however hate when someone will say " now that is a face only a mother could love"?? hello r u saying my dog is ugly.. it annoys me

Hope everyone has a great day

Yes, that's part of it, too! You just don't see that many out &

the pictures!!!!!!! LOL! I forgot about that!!! Sooo many people have taken piks of Meaty!!! happy.gif And many times, they'll say "I'm gonna send this picture to _____ and CONVINCE him/her that we NEED a bulldog!!" happy.gif

ArchimedesMommy's picture

yea, I get SOOO tired of the MONEY question...I'd NEVER ask anyo

When we took 2 out in strollers in Carmel, CA...

we could barely walk down the street without being mobbed! People stopped us to take pics and pet them. It was crazy.

People are curious because you just don't see that many bulldogs out and about. Their lack of endurance, tendency to overheat, and little need for much exercise keeps most of them home on the sofa.

most people do love them..

they always ask where to get them, I tell them to check the rescues and name them off...sad thing is, very few people dont like them or dogs, and the bullies think everyone loves them and its hard to get them away from that person..

much bully love~Christine, Dupree, Marley and Savannah

Same thing here.

Just yesterday i was walking Dozer in our new neighborhood and the mail man stopped and gave dozer a pat on the head and said he'd used to have one just like him and he loved them cuz they were such big softies. Dozer always gets attention everywhere he goes. But not always good one guy went on and on once about how expensive bullies where and how he couldnt understand how anyone would buy them. I wanted to let Dozer knock that guy down, lol.

made me laugh about Audrey..

Bella today went to Tim Hortons with my son through the drive thru..and she got 3 tin bits. one from the manager cause she thought she was cute, another from the girl at the drive thru window..she loved her too and another one because another person saw her in the drive thru window... normally a dog gets one.
the funny thing is bella does not like tim bits..lol at all. Bryan brought them home for Gus.
ONE time we had her out and stopped to pick up something at a store and there was a knock on the window when we came back to the car. it was the guy that sold sausages in his cart..and he brought Bella a sausage..as if she needed that.
Bella had the people at Pet Smart wrapped around her paw too..last week
she is a big hit no matter where she goes.

I tell them, yes they are expensive, BUT,

but you know they're worth a million dollars.

'Cause they are.

good for you

people need to know what they are in for.

Tiffany and Stella

My mom says that about Stella

It really bugs me.

If a stranger ever said something like that about my Stella, I might say something back that would be very very mean.
I take it very personally when people say things about her

do you just have a regular stroller?

Or do you buy the pet one?
I think I may have to get one for Stella with the discovery of arthritis.
She loves her rides in the car and loves outings with Mom and Dad

Tiffany and Stella

its so funny

whenever Stella sees someone she automatically goes over to them, and when its someone who isn't a dog person or doesn't like Bullys and doesn't look at her, she has this look of "what the heck"?! she just doesn't understand how everyone doesn't absolutely adore her.

Stella stops traffic (pic)

People will literally stop in the middle of the road to "talk to her". Last summer, after she went blind and we had her shades on, I think she got even more attention. We even had a kind of scary skin head looking kid come up to us, very politely actually, and ask if he could take a picture of her with his phone. He said she was the coolest thing he had ever seen. Of course she was, look at this!

CathyandAudrey's picture

Audrey always draws a crowd

people just can NOT resist her! She has had so many people, kids especially, come running noisily up to her. Sometimes they make her nervous because they are so wild about her. She loves the attention though when people approach her slowly, and she has all the PetSmart employees wrapped around her paw. And the McAllister's waitesses, and the ladies at the ice cream shop.

the money issue

I am getting money lectures already, and I don't even own a bulldog yet! It's very scary and discouraging to hear, as someone who is doing research and is interested in owning bulldogs. For a while I was pretty convinced that I should wait until I was a 45 year old millionaire before getting one, and to do otherwise was irresponsible. I just want so badly to do the right thing, you know?

But then I realized that most of the lectures came from non-dog owners, or dog owners who rarely looked at their own animals.

Ah, those faces are worth every penny happy.gif

MaggieMozeOllie's picture

I guess I'm not good at encouraging bulldog ownership, because

when we are bombarded with questions, I make the point of saying in a kind way, you have to be committed to the dog for life. That entails keeping them indoors year round except for short trips or short walks--very short walks. It also means you understand they need a cool floor and a/c all summer long--that even 5 minutes outside on a hot day can make them very hot. But...if you are really willing to do all that...you will have a dog like no other...a dog that will love you, your family, and be your very best friend for the rest of his life. I want to encourage responsible ownership, and I am pretty blunt about telling people that a bulldog is not for them if they are used to outside pets who do not require as much supervision. I have had people to tell me they really didn't know that much about bullies, and that their lifestyle would not work for a bully. I love Moze and Ollie so much. It hurts me to think someone would get a bully, then not appreciate
what it takes to keep them healthy and happy. I do enjoy hearing people's excitement when they see our silly babies though. happy.gif

Maggie, Moze, and Ollie
