I use Frontline Plus spot-on but it doesn't guard against mosquitos. I worry about West Nile since a few dogs did die from this here in Illinois, though not in my area.
I used to use Bio Spot, which guards against all three but Sumo hated it and rubbed it off on the carpet and furniture instantly.
I am going to search for spot-ons that work on all three but wondered if any of you use one and which it is. Also the price and if you purchase on-line.
Thanks
I think they could probably use it for dogs...
The sedative "acepromazine" is sometimes used for horses for shoeing or trimming their feet. On the bottle it says its for dogs and cattle...go figure? Anyway, the FDA probably has their reasons for not approving it. Malinda
How about the Avon stuff??
Don't have to worry about fleas or mosquitoes here in LV, but I've always heard about the Avon product that keeps mosquitoes off. Anyone use that??
Re: Need flea, tick , mosquito info
The Advantix K9 is the only other one I know of that gets all of them, we still use Bio Spot
I use.....
I use Advantix K9 it is for ticks, fleas and mosquitoes. I buy it from the vet and a six pack was around $70 but I dont know about on-line. Hope that helps
West Nile
We use Sentinel for Rosie and it works well (well we haven't had any problems). About West Nile - there is no vaccine for dogs, unfortunately. They have it for horses but not dogs (I asked my vet about this). So you just gotta hope for the best on that one!!! My parents live on a rural piece of property and I am so paranoid about all those darn mosquitos being around my darlin' Rosie!!!

does the more expensive stuff stay longer...
after bathing or swimming? I would definitely want that to be a determining factor in what I use also. Thanks, Malinda
catnip oil!
catnip oil has been proven to be more effective then deet (the chemical in off).

i would try that, rather then using a bunch of topical chemical medications. it is very easy to find online, or in any natural store
do a quick search for "catnip oil, fleas, mosquitoes" you should pull up a bunch of results. you can make a spray with the oil and some distilled water. you can even add some fragrance to make it smell pretty. i have no idea what catnip oil smells like
never use the hartz products, they are some of the worst out there.
liz
Used it before
Sumo hated it with a passion and instantly rubbed it off. It also smelled and was very greasy so I switched to the Frontline. That doesn't phase him at all.
I saw that Hartz makes a 3-in-one but Lizzie said never to use their products.
Great thanks
I just applied Frontline and have one more dose left so that gives me about 1 1/2 months til I need something.
Biospot.
Protects against everything. It is el-cheapo. 10.99 for 3 months worth and I have never had a problem with it. Not a tick, nor a flea and havent seen a mosquito yet. It was recommended by a woman that ownes the local grain store who has all kinds of dogs on her farm and uses this and she has never had a problem either.
Has anyone used Zodiac?
It says it repels fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. I found it at Walmart I believe. Is the stuff from the vets office better? Or does it just cost more? I think I am going to look at the two sites and compare ingredients...let you know what I find. Right now my two boys have Zodiac on, hopefully something is better than nothing:) Malinda
Only paid $36 for same thing at Vet......... n/m

Let you know about Advantix K9 later in the week........
Sue, sent one of my babies to a show in Alaska being held this weekend, gave her Advantix K9 before she left, once I talk with the handler to see how it worked I will let you know - lots of mosquitos in Alaska this time of year.
Last year when the dogs went to Alaska they came back just covered in mosquito bites.....
I also put it on my other dogs here at home, have not noticed any difference in it and regular Advantage - have a few mosquitos here but not like Alaska.....

The stuff stinks, I think that is why people
said that if would repel bugs. I couldn't use it if it did work it smelled so bad.
:)
That's ok! I heard it was good too, that's why I had purchased it. You are so lucky you don't have them, never knew there was such a place that didn't have those annoying critters
Oh well, what do I know...
Since we don't have those buggers here. Just I've always heard that it was so good....
Sure did...lol
Guess what happened when i used it?...lol it attracted the mosquitos more...well at least on my kids it did. I put it on them and they had about 50 mosquito bites all over. the doctor said it has some kind of citrus smell that attracts them..go figure!
