Natural Balance... Here we go again with itching/tearstains

I had Booger on Canidae as a puppy, but when they changed the formula, he got real bad tear stains, etc. So we put him on the NB Potato and Duck. All tearstains went away and he looked fantastic! Then they changed the formula. He got itchy and his face got horrible tear stains again so we changed him over to NB Sweet Potato and Fish. Everything got better again.

Well now here we are again. His tearstains are horrible. I cant keep up with his rope. ALWAYS gunky and nasty. He is licking his feet again... So I called NB and she told me the formula for sweet potato and fish has not changed at all. She said it could be he has developed a reaction or whatever after being on it for a while. Whatever. I dont buy that, but.... I am considering switching him over to the Sweet POtato and Venison or Bison. Have any of you had any experiences with those? What are yall's opinions?

By the way, Booger NEVER get treats of any kind. He gets nothing but filtered water. His water bowl is cleaned daily. He gets no table scraps or bones from the BBQ place anymore. He gets NOTHING but the dog food and filtered water. He goes outside to do his business and comes right back in. No bushes or leaves in his little yard. So I know there isnt a problem with something else he is getting, because the food is ALL he gets. He cant have anything else without having a reaction to it. Not even a piece of my sandwich or dog treats! We learned that the hard way!

We have this problem too...

with our golden retriever. Was on one formula of Natural Balance, had paw licking like crazy, conjunctiviits several times, and we recently switched formulas to the allergy formula venison. While it hasn't stopped completely it is 10 times better SO FAR. It's got to be something with the food itself and not the formula.

got 3 on NB duck and potato..

seems they are licking feet more since the formula change. Previously had them on the fish and the venison. Had skin and ear problems with both formulas.

Thinking about trying Belle on Primal because she's a mess.

Stella has that issue as well

We looked at the dog food review website,
and saw that her food was only a 3 star, so we tried switching her to a food that was 6 stars.
Well, her goopy eyes got really bad, licking her feet and she was itching her face.
So we switched her back to the 3 star food sad.gif
But I ordered Dr. Pitcairn's book and once I get it I will start cooking for her so I know exactly what she's getting. It will be here in about 10 days, hopefully that will be better for her.

I hope everything works out for your boy.

We did WEllness Core at one point too

before trying the NB Duck and Potato. Same thing but had really soft poop too. Didnt work well with Booger, but others have had great success with it. Just gotta find something that works for him again.

Have you tried Taste of the Wild salmon...

we have our guys on it and no tear stains at all, and they had horrible stains and tails before we switched to this food. Now I don't even have to clean Chez's tail it's so gunk free.

I am SSSOOO tired of companies changing formulas..

my bullies had been on TOTW for 9 months and all was fine.. within the last 3 months two of them got nasty ears, tear stains galore, and nasty eyes too... these girls NEVER have issues. So I am done.. I switched one to NB chicken and SP.. and the other to raw.. eventually they will probably all be on raw but I prefer to switch them one at a time :O)

got carried away lemme finish

josie is the same, no snacks except NB cookies, no plants/bushes in her yard. sh cannot have anything but food and clean water. her bowls are stanless steel, no perfumed detergents, clean blankies!! she was doing so good and now this change happens when we get a new bag with kibble that looks lighter. she was on NB venison & sp but too itchy. same with the fish & sp. EVO seems to be the only 2 ingredient food that may suit her. please let me know what you decide with Booger cause I am now scratching my head??? Thanks Tamsen

what about California Natural....

it is great for alergeries and has very limited ingredients.
I know of a few dogs that have really done well on this.
I had a boston one time with severe alergies and skin reactions and such
I used it and it helped completely with her

here is a link to their website

http://www.naturapet.com/

I used the lamb and rice formula
the only thing that is added is sunflower oil
it is one of the few dogfood that is not using potato
that seems to be bothering more then one bulldog on the board..
you could try this it and see
it comes in moist as well..and also the dog treats are the exact same thing as the dogfood..just dogbone shaped..

Josie is on NB Chicken and SP

and she is "pinking up," after eating and signs of IDCs. arrgghh

Stan is on the venison

and it works great for him. He did not do well on the duck. I read an article that said any reactions like that to food can take months to come out.
