I know we can't get staph infections from animals, but can we GIVE them to animals? George doesn't have any open sores or anything that the infection can pass through easily, but the Dr. has said he is dangerously contagious. I've BLEACHED just about everything in the house to sanitize, but I can't help it...he's still breathing LOL. I've been put on meds to prevent me from getting it, but I'm worried about our George man:)
Thanks!
Thank you so much for putting me at ease!!!
Rhiann has lots of
information on MRSA. You might want to email her if she doesn't see this post and respond
I had
mrsa pneumonia, most of us carry it on our skin. It is my understanding we can give it to dogs, but the more likely real problem is you get it, then your dog becomes a carrier, then your dog gives it back to you so you continue to have mrsa infections. Tiger never got it from me but I'm sure I made her a carrier for awhile

My Tiger
My Chester has MRSA and I was told by the vet to ....
clean my hands any time I touch him. But I have to tell you, with everything that has been going on with my boy i have been all over him neglecting washing and all. I read that we normally carry MRSA on our skins, in our houses...you can can infected only if your immune system is compromised so you may never get it from you bf and your boy may not get it neither if he is generally healthy. My Chester has been having a lot of skin issues since we got him and he spent time in shelter and hospital so he ma have picked it up somewhere there. ALso, he may have picked it up on any trip to vet's office or we may have tracked it in...who knows?I am obsessed about cleanness but you cannot keep them in the bubble. I think you guys are safe, but you should use plenty of sanitizers, those with alcohol, and make sure you do not have your bf touch him or you on any spots you guys have open sores. Good luck, this shall pass as well.
thats what I have. The cream for my nose.
I'm not positive
I know dogs can get MRSA but I don't know if they catch it from humans. My nephew and niece had MRSA and none of us or the dogs caught it. We did use the medicine in our noses.

Most likely he wont be
Regardless of what you read, what a vet tells you and what your BF's dr tells you, MRSA is rarely passed from dog to humans and vice versa. Note that i said "rarely". Because there have been cases of similar strains documented and some possibly mutated strains once it passes from human to dog.
As already posted, a normal healthy person or dog does'nt get MRSA. Its everywhere! The toilet seat at that fast food joint, the papertowel holder, the door knobs..everywhere. It can pass through the air, blood, urine, feces, and skin. Most people have came in contact with MRSA and never knew it. They were not affected because they were healthy or the pathogen didnt have an "open" host to enter the body.
Sounds like your doing everything you should. Lost of bleach! Lots of handwashing. Handwashing is the number 1 defense- if done properly. This doesnt mean run your hands unde thr sink for 3 secnds without soap! LOL! If anyone has poor hand hygenine (I think many men do...sorry guys :(then keep hand sanitizer everywhere. I have them all over my house.
Also dose up on Omega 3's including Geroge. Higher does or Omega 3's (fish Oil creates helps create a barrier for your skins defense mechanisim.
Now you can breath and rest easy..I am sure George will be fine.
