Multiple Dogs (to Ce?)

Hi all! Ce, I read, with the Cody issue, something about you having five dogs? Is that correct?

I was wondering if you could shed some light on any tips you may have in handling so many "children". Are they indoor dogs and do you have any "alpha" issues?

I'm an owner of three and sometimes run into squabbles with them. Also, do you get embarrassed when people come over and see so many dogs?

Thanks!

Bowls

We never switch around the bowls or move the spots they eat in. For some strange reason that has worked. We also are with them when they eat so when one may sneak towards the other bowl we say no. I'm sure late at night if one of them has not finished all their food they all sneak a taste. Yje other funny thing with my dogs is not one of them will start eating until there is food in all bowls. My dalmation will keeping barking at us until the bullies have food.

More on my crew:

I totally can relate to Ce on all my kids friends love coming here because they love all the dogs. Many have never had one and it makes me feel sad for the poor kids.I do have the luxary of being home with my crew fulltime.
The biggest hassle is if we want to take a vacation. We either load up the motor home or drop some off at my parents and my sisters house.I have never tried boarding them but may as there is a new place not far from here.I don't know if I am comfortable with that though.I haven't vacationed with all 8 as 3 haven't been here too long.
They do get hyper when people come but will settle down. They spend alot of the day sleeping or when it's nice they love to be outside. If I know someone is coming I do try and put some outside before they get here.On the other hand if you don't like my pups don't come. They are a part of this family and who I am.
I also free feed and that works well here.No one fights over food because it's always available.
It warms my heart so to see how gentle and loving my kids are with our dogs.Even my 19 year old son.
It's funny too because all 8 of my dogs follow me around and want to be wherever I am.All so loyal and loving.
Until last weekend we also had our first litter of boston pups so for 8 weeks we had 12 dogs.
Yep crazy dog lady that's me.I think Ce should be called:The Dog whisperer! Heather

bowls...

How may I ask do you get them to use their own bowl??
I only have two dogs (Emma my bully girl and Bailey my yellow lab) and they ALWAYS want to eat out of the other dog's dish. ALWAYS!! I had been feeding one of them out on the deck to make sure they eat their own, but with all the rain lately I can't. I've only had Emma for about 3 months, and at first they were eating different types of food (impossible!) so I changed them to both eating Nupro.
On a side note...if I had more time and more property I think I would have a petting zoo or something. Gotta love our furry friends. I could very easily be the crazy dog lady.

Julia's picture

Ce, Hawk sounds hilarious with his tennis ball antics!

How CUTE! What a silly boy!

4 Dogs

Stephen and I have 4 dogs. It is a little crazy when someone comes to the house but they settle pretty quickly. I am never embarrassed by my bunch, if they make someone uncomfortable, I guess they don't come back. When I visit my father, I have to take my dogs because it is an overnight trip. We come in his house like a herd of elephants, my father just gets out of the way. He gets his dose of dog loving but I think he is relieved when we depart.

Good luck

now I had to laugh!!

heeheehee, that quote was worth repeating, LOL My animals are much quieter than my husband and don't talk back like the kids do.

I really want a second greyhound to go along with the one I already have and my bulldog, but my husband is pitching a fit about it. I'll wait until my little one (DD) gets older, then I'll get the third dog anyway. He would have been perfectly happy with only the bulldog, but I wanted to add more to the mix. And still do. My mom thinks I'm crazy because I have two dogs, two dogs??!! What's two when Heather has 8 and Ce has 6?!!!! But the people who say something are almost always the ones who don't have pets, so they don't understand.

Pets can be like potato chips, you can't stop at just one!

Had to laugh, but I'm not making fun of you

I have 3 dogs and six cats. Am I embarrassed when people come to my house and see all my animals? NO! Am I embarrassed when people come over and see my husband, well that's another story! My animals are much better behaved, more sociable, and quite frankly much better looking.

I had to laugh when i read the crazy dog woman..

for years in out village I have been known as the greyhound lady..or if a dog turns up take them to ce she knows "all" the dogs and where they live..lol(I don't)..or if the police have a stray they can not catch..or is growling they will come get me and say okay you talk to the dog..chuckle...if the only crazy I ever am labeled with is pupster related I am truly blessed...grin...
and I also agree..my chil'ons love an respect all animals..and all their friends love to come hang out here because there is alway a heatbeat to hold...ce

ps..yes people think we are crazy...but

we live here they are just visiting..and we are very happy with our heartbeat filled house...smile..ce

my yelpx5 gumbo gang....plus one...smile...long

yes we had 5 dogs..now we are honored with Cody and have 6...and they are all inside dogs...and all males...two are 10 year old greyhounds that are very mellow...couch potatoes..and pretty much get along with every heartbeat they meet...our Silent Pacer is going blind and has some other health issues...so he is having some grumps that are at the most a growl when startled...our Churchill the other grey has fluid on his heart that is progressive..and only by the grace of the big guy in the sky is still with us...smile..he is one mellow fellow...and my velcro hip dog.
...we also have two male springers..Beanbag was found in back of a dept.store in winter ..in -35 degree wind chills and a blizzard...he was frozen and had to be put on IV's and thermo wrapped...till he came back to us...he was a mere 3 months old...he is 6 now...and a bit twitty..but a love...and very silly...he hasn't quite figured out MoJo yet..and is a bit afraid of him...so he trys to avoid him....and at this time has only visited with Cody through the
baby gate...the other springer we actually adopted through a delightful breeder and is our only non rescue...that is Hawk..he is 5 and he is way too smart..and the Alpha below myself..he is an amazing dog ...can open doors by turning the handle and pulling them in by jumping backwards..if you ignore him he floats his tennis ball in the water bowl and then lays on his back..puts his paws over his head ..and full force thwaps you with it in an overhead toss..then sits in front of you grins..and then zooms outside...not something all company appreciates...lol
He too has only meet Cody at this point through the baby gate...but Cody is so laid back that all the yelpsters except Mojo just sorta sniff.and go okay..he'll do...Hawk does growl at times at MoJo..but MoJo just continues to play...and as long as MoJo doesn't touch Hawks baby cow that he has had since he was 6 weeks,,,they do get along...
we feed them all at the time times..twice a day in different areas of the house...so everyone can eat in peace they all have have favorite sleeping spots...
and company who know me well know that if you knock on my door your going to get a ear full..and lots of sniffs and kisses..then after about 5-10 minutes they all just go lay down..and wait for any fun to happen...except moJo ..who is a mischievious fellow..and just wants to play and play and play...so he's got some of the days routine down..but sometimes he just has to stir the pot...chuckle...with the 5 we had before Cody, we have never had a fight...if the greys want something like MoJo is on their beds..they just come to me and stare at their beds..till i help them out..the springers are active..and play hard with each other..but are just beginning to play with MoJo too..and then they play better outside then inside..they try and ignore him...sorry this is so long..but with six to cover it's alot to mention...but all in all I am blessed they do get along....but I am home too if I worked outside the house with this gumbo gang I think it would be less calm...ce

Ce here :) kidding

I have 3-- just now having a bit of trouble..but I am on my dogs let say faster than a fly to poooo....
I dont think i would have any trouble if Hubby would say yes to a snip job on my bullmastiff--my bulls do everything together...everything even eat:)

not ce but...

I have 3 dogs and they are all indoor dogs. This is my life its not always perfect but if my friends don't like it they don't have to come....I have some people looking at me like I am crazy and I am so that does not bother me....

I use to have a snake a lizard and two cats. The lizard and snake have found a new home and one of my cats ran away so now my house consist of 5 humans 4 human want to be's and awhole lot of dog hair........You wear no black in my house....

I wouldn't have it any other way and I will probally add more later......

Rebecca

Not Ce but...........

I have 8 dogs. One is a bullie and the others are boston terriers. All inside dogs.
I do have alpha issues sometimes ecspecially if a female is in heat.I love them all and try and deal with it the best I can.
Sometimes I do get embarrassed about how many we have but it's my life and this is how I want to live it.I try to have the attitude that if people don't like it then don't come here.Sometimes I feel like people are probably calling me the crazy dog lady. The last 3 I got came together from the same place and I have had them for 3 weeks.I feel I am giving them a better life than they have ever know and I was able to take all 3 who love each other dearly so they didn't have to be seperated. My dogs are greater beings than alot of people I have met and I love spending time with them all.
With my dogs too bostons can be pretty territorial. Most of the time they all love each other but my one male can get an attitude. My bullie Snuggs is great with them all.
I get alot out of having my babies.Much more than I give them.Total unconditional love is the best! I have also taught my kids to love and respect animals and they love all my babies too.
While I realize 8 is alot I didn't plan on so many but they all have the best home here..
I know I'm not Ce and I hope you don't mind my answering.Heather

4 dogs

I have four dogs. 3 bullies and a crazy dalmation. When people hear this they look at me as though I am crazy and wonder how I keep things in order. Sometimes people will look at me with disguist, but generally those are the people who have no animals. We have are fights here too, but otherwise as long as I stay on top of everything it's good. They all know what bowl is their's, and all we have to say is go back to your bowl and they do. I would not trade them for anything.

Denise... you are a riot....

..I can hardly wait till Vegas..!!!
