Mollys home- incision is infected... the vet says .. (more)

The vet said the brown pussy stuff is from her infection also, there is puffy hardness under the skin next to the infection which is an additional indication the incision is infected, can I tell you guys how extremely pissed off I am?? We took Molly to the vet Friday becuase we where worried about how it looked and that it opened, and they said its ok.

So today, they gave her antibiotics something that begins with a C and told us to keep her in her cage because the stiches are partly open ... they also mentioned the rare occurance that someone stated on the board of the stiches opening and the intestines falling out but stressed its rare, well at this point I'm really pissed.

So I said , yeah someone mentioned this a knowledgeable Bulldogger and Breeder that its bad for bullys to have stiches on the inside of their stomach becasue the fatty acids eat them away, and he said I've never heard of that before.

So now my hubby and I are debating weather to take Molly to the bully vet Helen mentioned, to let them check her out or to just give the antibiotics. What do you guys think ,and mainly Helen what would you recommend. I'm goin to call them now and see if they even have an opening tomorrow.

Thanks for listening, dont know what i'd do without you guys ;(

Frannie and Molly

Poor miss Molly! ...

I don't blame you for being pi$$ed off! I would definitely go to the Bullie vet just to double check, it will give you peace of mind just to have a second opinion. Happy thoughts your way! (:

I"d go to Helen's vet

Hope Molly feels much better real soon.

I think Frannie and Molly's situation is the exception to the rule. You know? 9 times out of 10 (just an expression! Who knows the statistics... ) girl doggies recover without any incident after a spay. All my girls in my entire life recovered perfectly. Two black labs, a poodle (my g-ma's!!) and a basset hound. All without adverse reactions.

Just keep her nice and calm, no rigorous stair climbing, and check the incision often to make sure it's clean and healthy. She'll be FINE! And I'm sure even happier when it's over.

Molly, you hang in there!!!!!! Lots of love to you!

Uggghh

I sware I have heard more irritating vet incidences this year! Liz is right - it could have just started to get infected ,though.

Clavamox? Keep her on the anitbiotic. If you see it not looking better in 48 hrs, then I would go to Helens vet.

Sutures

Liz, I said that with good knowledge from an old bulldog vet that used to do my sections. The first time he did one for me she eviserated and he said, Dam, I forgot that they can't use the same sutures due to the fatty acid in their skin and he restitched her with different sutures. From then on he never used the same ones he did on the first sugery.

Wow, those are the reasons I am scared for Lily

I hope Molly gets better, poor baby. Extra loves to her.

Poor Molly

Hope she starts to feel better soon.

It might be time to find another vet to use all the time.

Prayers and thoughts are with you and Molly!

Sue

Miss Molly

I hope you get better soon. I agree with Liz on the it can happen even with the best care. I think Helen knew about the stitches not holding well due to fatty acids in bullies. Frannie, good job being vigilant and picking up on the brown pus and getting her taken care ofMolly, hope you get better soon!

frannie,
everything your vet is doing sounds fine to me. you need to keep her quiet and if that means in the crate, that's where she has to be. she had major surgery and needs to heal.

infection can take a few days to get a hold and while it may not have been infected on friday, it can be today...through no neglagence of anyone.

sutures are needed inside, who said something about bulldogs and fatty acids dissolving the sutures in the stomach?? i'm sorry to whoever said that, but that sounds pretty rediculous to me. besides, the sutures are not in her stomach, they are in her abdomen. they need to be there, especially if she is being active. there will be 3 layers of sutures, usually.

keep her quiet, keep her on the antibiotics, and use a warm washcloth on the incision 2x a day, for 5 minutes to help with the infection. i really don't think your vet is doing anything wrong, but if you are not comfortable with them, then you need to find another vet.

i hope molly feels better soon.

liz

Just like a child...wouldn't you want the best AND a second opin

I'm no expert, and of course I cannot be held liable for my opinion....BUT I say go ahead and give her the antibiotics, because you can't risk the infection spreading OR getting worse, HOWEVER I would STILL take her to a Bully sponsored vet just as a follow-on. It would help put you at ease OR give you some options. It's worth the $$$$

I would certainly be

pissed too and with very good reason. If it were me I would take her to the other vet, as I would have lost all confidence in the ones that did the surgery. So sorry this happened, give that little angel a hug and kiss from theo and me.

Molly

Frannie--you said you live in Ocean City, NJ? If you are intersted, email me and I'll give you some bulldog vet's names here in Monmouth County.

Good grief I'd say you have every right to be P.O'D

and I also would indeed take and see if you can get an appointment for Molly with a vet that knows what is what in the world of Bullies...call the vet Helen mentioned and see what they say....hugs to Molly and please let us know when you do.....ce
