Maggie has been to the vet twice this week and is on antibiotics for her owwie on the bottom of her paw...
Any help with this would be appreciated... We were gone last week for 3 days and Sophie and Maggie were taken care of here at our home by my step-son. Maggie got really excited when we got home and about an hour after we got home she broke out in hives everywhere.. tummy, under leg (..and arm..) pits, her, ummm, privates, face, wrinkles, ..everywhere.. We used Benadryl and by the next day she was fine.. We thought it was just an "excited" reaction to our returning home! (wishful thinking I guess..) The next day she started holding her paw up and wouldn't put any weight on it. We went to the vet on Tuesday and they thought it might be a pustule of some sort and examined it carefully... It had nothing in it (pus), but was red and very painful. The vet put her on antibiotics (Cephalexin, 500 mg. 2x daily.) They told us if it didn't start to clear within 48 hours bring her back and they would asperate it.
Well today we took her back and it has continued to hurt and not gotten any better. They attempted to aspirate it and found only blood, no pus, and found it to be very "firm." The blood was sent to the lab to determine if it is a "mass-cell tumor." In the mean time she is on a different antibiotic, Orbax 68 mg. They said it may be a bite of some sort, but are really unsure exactly what it is.
When we got home from the vet my husband found an area in the corner of our family room where Maggie had apparently dug and chewed her way into a corner, chewing the sheetrock and digging away at the corner. She actually went through the sheetrock right down on the floor by the carpet. Maggie has never done anything like this before and we think she may have been chasing after a spider and maybe it bit her.. (Naturally, my step-son, age 22, knows nothing..!!)
I've included pictures of the bite.. ..or whatever it is.. and where she chased something.. We thought since she had had an allergic reaction to something and then coming up with this "thing" whatever it is.. might be related! I'd sure appreciate if anyone has any idea what this might be. She isn't running a fever and otherwise is doing great.
Oouch,. I hope tha gets better soon.

Poor Maggie
It looks like some kind of a bug bite or maybe even a puncture that has infected. Are there field mice there? Could one have gotten in through the foundation and that is what she went after? Maybe it bit or clawed her paw? That hole looks likes a tiny mouse could get through.
Can hubby patch that hole?
Poor girl, hope she feels better.

oh Maggie...from now On I'm flying out to care for you when
your folks need to leave you and sweet Sophie...
I wish I could help..however till "THEY" (the vets and powers that be) figure it out...
that waiting and the unknown makes me crazy...
I'd try soaking her feet in alveeno...it might help it feel better ..and if it's bite can clean it..and relieve some of the itch or pain..also if it is something embedded...then it might work it's self out...
poor baby it looks sore...
when she was digging is it possible she caught a nail or staple?or even a particle of the sheet rock may have irritated it...keep us posted..but try the soaks...hugs and love ya's...ce
Get well wishes to you! n/m

Ouch!!
I'll be waiting to hear when you get more information from the vets.
Isn't it interesting that it's a big guessing game for the vets too? Pride was sooooo sick, in much distress .. as evident as her illness was to the vets, they couldn't come up with an official diagnosis.
Sorry I meant to say...
Severly infected in-grown hair.
Robin...
My Piggy used to get that sometimes on her paw...same symtoms, she actually dug a hole in my carpet and ruined one of her pet beds from the digging, I too went thru the battery of test with no conclusion. I too had thought she was bit by something.
Turns out it was a severly infected hair that was deep in the pad, I know...sounds crazy but true. It was so painful she was trying anything to get it out herself, even tried bitting at it. Once they figured it out I had to soak her foot, then try to squeeze it out, eventually it came out and her foot went back to normal.
I hope this is the case with sweet Maggie and that it is nothing more serious. Please keep us posted.
Poor Baby
that looks so painful. Hope they find out what it is and the meds work on it soon.
My mom was bit by a spider
We had to take her to the hospital the next day. Her arm had a bump similar to that and it was all swollen and she had a red line traveling up her arm. The doc said it was the venom traveling towards her heart. The gave her meds and she was fine, but she said it was very painful!
Hope Maggie is starting to feel better!

It has the appearance of a bite. Lots of spiders this year.. :(
Spider bites are usually hard and hurt as opposed to
skeeter bites (soft, flat) and itch.
Take care, and watch the center of the bite for opening and softening into something really ugly and dangerous.
