Looking up your breeder

I had a meeting last night with a woman who might sell my collars wholesale, and in talking dogs with her I learned something! If you've never done it, try looking up your breeder's address on Google Earth. She said that she tells clients all the time to do this because it can give you an idea of the pups living conditons, she's looked up many that were tiny little houses with rows and rows of kennels or cages... so sad but really such a great idea when you're thinking of buying a puppy over the internet.

I'm about to look up Cooper since he came from a petstore and I'm curious..

I did that last year when I bot my Lhasa Apso

I got her from a breeder in Oklahoma, so I used Google Earth to see her house and property. I was mainly looking to see that she didn't have a large number of outdoor pens that would suggest a puppy miller or a person who made her dogs live outdoors.

Just remember a lot of the satellite views are not up to date,,

Mine still shows Christmas decorations from 5 years ago. Not that I mind, lol. So they are not totally accurate.

For example... A fence could have been added to a property, whereas someone from rescue or a breeder who wants the dog to go to a home WITH a fence, may not actually see one in the pic, and think the owner is lying.

I agree

not all breeders who have a kennel for their dogs are bad.

Yes -

We do this too, and I use other sites to look for anything out of the ordinary, such as Criminal Record, any pending lawsuits, any domestic abuse or animal abuse situations, if the name, address, occupation, phone number, etc. they told me is true. I ask for contact info of the Vet they use, and then call the office for conformation that they are a Client.
On the Google Earth there is a street level view and also a view from above, just wish the photos were updated more frequently.

Re: Looking up your breeder

i did that, with a number of breeders, when i was looking for a pup. I loved Remi's breeder. I got to go there every week and hang out in her house where the pups lived, with her 4 kids. i felt right at home. it was nice to know that they were very good real people!

I say if you can't see or touch the pup, and its mother and see where shes been living for the duration of her pregnancy then I'd stay away! They're expensive dogs...and potentially even more expensive in the long run if they've been poorly bred...scary stuff, the thought of getting attached to a dog only to have to watch it have health problems its whole life sad.gif

It also works for people selling puppies...

I ALWAYS Google phone #'s, Home Address's, E-mail address's of anyone that is enquiring about a puppy or stud service from us...

you have to be in street view right??

if you go to street view you can see all around the property
it is really wild to be honest
not all addresses are available yet for this
and the pics are not exactly RIGHT NOW..
must have been taken when the website was streets view was setup.

good idea that though to check
in if you are interested in a breeder..
you can see in the backyard..

good one Alison..
