LEPTO

My male 5yr old bully was diagnosed lepto in nov all 6 of my dogs have been vaccinated for it he titered >800 and the only reason he was checked after all his bloodwork came back normal (kidney etc) was he continued to be incontinent all of a sudden this started and Bringman never potties in the house and my vet checked him for it and he and all the other animals in the house had to be treated with doxy for 14 days we will recheck him again in a week or so to see where his titer is his incontinence has gotten much better but it is at rest or sleep still somewhat. I also had to be checked as I was cleaning up his urine. My bullies have their own yard fenced with no other dogs allowed I never take them to stores out or anything. However, since it can be contracted through just smelling the urine of an affected animal rodent in your yard deer etc its hard to stop...but Bringman was not positive to the 4 serovars that they vaccinate against however there are others. He is being followed also by Cornell University.

Spoke with a friend last night....

and she has a new rescue Cocker Spaniel puppy who we stopped to meet and get a wiff of puppy breath from......

Anyway, my friend told me that her vet said they are getting a new case of Lepto every week at this point!! It is rather scary because you would have thought Zoey was a bloodhound yesterday with her sniffing!! I don't know if it is the squirrels or the racoons or even other dogs but it is making me very nervous!

Interesting anecdote.

Thank you for sharing.

I'm having a hard time understanding your post exactly, but I'd be curious to know what his exact titer was. You only said >1:800. That's the minimum for lepto protection, to my knowledge. But I didn't research lepto specifically.

Just goes to show that you have to do what you think is right for your pets because anything can happen. There are many strains of many diseases out there and vaccines aren't 100% foolproof.
