Late nite training question..

So my dozer has learned a few basic commands he can sit, shake, and laydown. But i am wanting to teach him to stay once he sits. Any suggestions on how i can teach him to stay put once he sits down? He manages to keep his butt on the floor for like .3 seconds and then he gets up and runs around until i tell him to sit again. Any suggestions are welcome and i appreciate the feedback. Happy Turkey Day BDW!!

Ok you're doing great so far. You taught him to sit. We're going back to puppy type class exercises. Put his leash on for this exercise. Have treats that he really loves (very small pieces of hot dog or cheese...so small , like the size of your pinky nail)
Ask for a "sit". The minute his butt goes down say "yes" and give him the treat. Repeat maybe 8 times. So now he knows when you say "yes" he'll get a reward.
With the leash on. Having gotten the sit (on your left side), tell him to stay. In obedience we use a hand jesture along with the command. We pass our hand with the palm facing the dogs nose , left to right or right to left, several inches in front to the dogs face. So you say "stay" pass your hand in front of his nose, THEN stand in front of the dog. You will be so close to the dog he can't go anywhere. Count in your head to 5 and go back to his side. Say "yes" give him a treat and praise him. Repeat.....Only work for 10 minute at a time. Then let him run around the house if he wants. Once he gets the concept of "stay" you step further out in front of him and lengthen the time you make him stay. When you feel it's Solid in his mind you can take off the leash.
Have fun training we do!
