I'll post more later about any info i have..but i can not be on the board at 7:30chil'on scholl morning stuff time......i can call you this evening if that helps you..but just pass around the doggie downers and all will go well...lol
..There is a rest area in Albert Lea MN on 35..which is the way we will be coming to you..and i assume the way you will also be coming..I'm not sure which side of the Highway it's on..I'm map challenged...chuckle
but which ever one of us can turn and get into it...
..we will be in our little white Mojo limo the colt..plate tag yelps5 ...and we should be there around 3:00 central time...give or take due to weather and time of Deb and Coles transfer to us...
what mode of Bullie ride will you be driving?
It will be hubby and i ...are you driving alone..i hope not.
.....weather may indeed be a factor we are suspose to have severe storms...hail,high winds..and temps in the low 80's ,which our little putt putt car has a very hard time staying on the highyway with semi truck draft ...so if we are off on the time it's just due to potty stops and weather...we are meeting Deb and her hubby at high noon...again taking weather and Cody needs into consideration...
..we had severe storms here last night and after I posted my snow filled picture for the summer contest ..(summer in the artic...it was more of a joke then true entery ,chuckle)for webbie to get out of number 66..I had to unplug and shut down..or I would have answered you last night...more asap...ce
were a nice balance yes?..smile
and thank you....ce
Eternal Pessimist vs. Eternal Opitmist
Ce,
Your postings always make be smile. Thanks
Lynn K
the often annoying eternal optimist in me would like to think
maybe they cleaned him up and fattened him up a bit...when they thought they were getting 1500.00 for him ....but then you are very well in knowledge of who we are dealing with..but I can hope..and pray...ce
Shelly just a note on your repley...
I know very little about him...or how he will adapt..and agree with all the above posts..about the vet ,and using a crate in the journey..we will be using one for sure...
..about his being kenneled..he has been kenneled with all the other bullies there..it's one kennel..with oil drums on thier sides for shelter...when I was there..all the bullies were just sitting on the oil drum..quietly ..it was strange to me..because I had never seen that many yelps (about 8-9 that i could see)be so quiet...just all sat there staring...if anything Cody is the most laid back of the bullies the owner has...he often gets picked on over food and that sort of pecking order thing...he doesn't like to squabble and walks away...now of course I am taking the word on this from the co-owner..and so that's a for what it's worth..except the part about them all kenneled together that I saw first hand......but i think Cody will be going through alot in a short amount of hours..and all precautions of health and safety should indeed be taken...thanks..ce
Just to add my two cents....about the crate...
I would leave him in the crate no matter how he does free in the car. He can settle down in the crate, start to feel safe, secure in there and relax a little bit for the entire trip. He will be changing cars and people, but the crate remains "his place". It will be less stressful for him to stay in there the whole way. But thats just my opinion.

Also, even if he is doing well in the car, a sudden sound or something (lightening) could flip him out if he is on edge to begin with. The back seat is no place to try and control a wild, scared dog that could possibly bite you out of fear if he got spooked. That is for your safety. You couldnt get away from him. Im sure everything would be FINE, but you really never know with a dog that doesnt know you yet.
But that is just my humble opinion, for what its worth.
Ideas
I would just put them together or even in the same area outside until you get his stool checked and make sure he has had all shots up to date.
Pam brings some of her rescues over to my place because I have a separate room inside my kennel where the dogs are at least 1 wall and 10 - 15 ft through the door from my dogs. Outside they have separate runs, but open, but they are double chain link fencing between, just in case. I would ask the vet about a pill that you could give for worms at the site where you are picking him up as then they would mostly all be dead by the time you get him home and there would be no problem there. I would also have then meet at a neutral site like maybe a park near your home, get hubby to hold him at a park or field near your house and you go get your baby and let them meet there. Then take them both home.
Crate Cody...nm
nm
I would..
Definately keep them apart until he has been throughly checked out and even for a few days after that. Since Cody has been an outside dog and kenneled I would actually introduce them while Cody was crated for a few days, then gradual and for short periods of time let them together, or course always supervised.
You are really going to have to see what his temperment is before allowing him with other dogs. He may have been kenneled because he does not get along with other dogs. Good luck with Cody! =)
DO NOT introduce
Kristae,
Cody is an intact, severely undersocialized dog with unknown medical and behavior issues. Please do not allow access to Diamond. Have him go potty in an area of your yard that you can keep Diamond away from. Clean up immediately. I realize you are very excited about taking Cody but your first priority is Diamond.
When he is vet cleared, allow access only through gates so they can see each other without contact. This gives you the opportunity to observe their reactions. Walk them together but separately, you have one dog, your husband has the other dog.
Be very careful at feeding time. A lot of dogs that have been excluded from households and human contact become resource guarders and can be pretty aggressive over their food bowls.
I know I always sound like the eternal pessimist but the introduction of dogs can make or break the relationship for the rest of their lives. I have seen way too many incidents where the crap hit the fan because the owners were not patient enough.
Good luck
Lynn K
Happy to help ....
I wish we'd all get to meet too...but I am totally determined that one day the three of us (and the guys) will pick a place in the middle and bring all our Cody relatives for an overnight visit somewhere!

We are a little nervous to see Cody (and what kind of shape he's in), but very excited about his future!
You guys are great Deb!
I wish that I got to meet you. I gave you my number right? Please call me anytime. I will be sending you tons of pics of Cody and Diamond. I just can't express in words what I am feeling about this whole situation.
Crate vs. Loose question
Our leg of the trip will be mostly driving without Cody. He'll be with us for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours. We drive a small 2 door car. We were planning on just covering the back seat with plastic and then old blankets that can be thrown away afterwards for Cody. Do you all recommend that we try to cram some time of carrier/crate back there? It is sort of a small, confined space...we were thinking he should be okay back there...but want to do whatever will be best for him.

We were gonna go "Cody shopping" last night, but had severe weather in our area...so we're going tonight. Thought maybe we'd give Del Ray his toys for overnight so they'd smell like her and he'd realize they're for doggies. He's probably never seen a toy...poor baby
Oh, and I did speak to the owner's sister, who promised me she'd dose Cody with Frontline before we come pick him up.
Any other thoughts or suggestions are welcome!
Deb
No, No, No..............
I have a two door Yukon. Its like a short suburban. He would ride in the back seat with me. That is Diamond's favorite place. I can't believe how much room is back there and the seat is huge. I would never put one of my dogs in the bed of a pickup truck. I hear to many horror stories, and besides then I couldn't pet them and cuddle with them.
Good Idea............Helen?
That's a good idea, I had thought about that but wasn't sure who to ask. Helen, do you think they should be kept apart until I take Cody to the vet. I was planning on giving him a flea and tick bath right away just to make sure, but what do you think? Any tips for when I get him home. This is my first "rescue situation".
Truck?
Not in the bed of a pickup, right? I hope not. I'd rather have him on the seat or the passenger side floor than that. Bed of the pickup would be dangerous.
Yes........
I am bringing a crate with me. I will find out how he did for the first leg of the trip, that way if he is better in the crate then he can ride in there, otherwise I will let him lay down in the back of my truck.
Kristae, just a thought
Ask Patti or Helen or somebody more knowledgeable than me about whether to introduce them before a vet check. All of the posts about mange and respiratory illnesses and parasitic diarrhea in various dogs would give me pause. Because ce thought he didn't look well before. Also whether to gradually introduce them and how to keep them separated till then. Since he's been outside, whether to keep him out some if you can until the vet check anyway.
You may be a lot more dog savvy than me(I have only had 2 dogs in my life), but these are things I would be thinking about. You may already have a plan for all of this.
Good luck with him. You all are doing a great thing.
RE: Cody
I have been reading all your posts about this and think it is great what you are doing. Just one little thing are you bringing a crate for Cody to travel in? I would definitely have one in the car as he may get scared, some bulldogs do and then they have a heart attack, not to put the damper on anything but its better to be safe than sorry.
Can't wait to hear from you!
Yes I am on central time. The best time to call would be either between 4:00pm and 7:00pm, I have something to go to at 7:00pm, or after 9:00pm. I hope that works, I don't know what your work schedule is like or anything. I will be leaving Diamond at home. I will also email you my phone numbers again. I am so excited I can hardly stand it!
Glad your not traveling alone...
no I don't have have a cell phone..and neither does Deb...we are winging it..however I will bring your cell phone number if we should need it..and call from a good old fashion pay phone if the need should arrive...
..in my opinion.I wouldn't bring Diamond...I know I would love to have brought MoJo..if he felt better..and Deb Delray so they all could meet..but i think Poor Cody never have ridden in a car..never have been on a leash..and with the severe weather forecasts..possibly traveling in high winds, hail sounds,,,lightening,,and thunder drums...he may be very stressed it's a long trip for him ..about 10 hours i think total...so I think the added stress would be just too much...we don't know how he will take to travel ..and we all may be stopping alot...so I'd leave the babies home..and introduce them slowly in an area not so confined....
your on central time correct?
...whats a good time in the evening to call....
and just in case i can not find your first email with the phone numbers could you email them again...I have 87 emails waiting in my box right now and 42 in my other email....thanks more later...
the rest stop it is..albert lea's...ce
Re: Kristae...info Cody quest
That sounds fine. I knew there was a rest area there, but I wasn't sure if that was where you wanted to meet or not. That sounds like a plan. It will be and my hubby, and we are trying to decide whether or not to take Diamond. I am leaning towards no because I think that it would probably be better for Cody to meet her when we get home, what do you think?
We will be driving a green GMC Yukon 2 door. Its like a 2 door suburban. You will be able to tell its us because there aren't very many of them and ours says GT on the side in red letters, down by the door.
I spoke to the vet yesterday, and they aren't going to be able to give me any discount on Cody's neutering. I did get him an appointment first thing Monday morning to get all checked out. I will also be doing his heartworm test and all vaccinations too. I am so excited. I can't think about anything else, even though I have finals at school next week. Oh well, everyone has their priorities and this is mine. All my friends have offered to help in whatever way they could also, so that made me feel good to have some support from the home front. My mom is ready for her second "grandchild".
We will plan on meeting at 3:00, if its later no big deal I would rather wait around. Do you have a cell phone that you will be bringing with you? Did you get the info that I emailed you? I would love it if you called tonight! It would be nice to put a voice with the words! Let me know what you think!
Super!
Sorry, I panicked.
