Kris, a word about psychics

You don't have to convince me. There was a murder case in the New Orleans area about 10 years ago that got a lot of attention. A book about the murder, Blood Will Tell, helped make Dr. Henry Lee a national celebrity before the OJ trial gave him even more of the limelight.

The murder case was fascinating. If you have ever seen the Alfred Hitchcock movie Strangers On A Train, many locals thought the two defendants based the murder on that movie. In this real case, wife was beaten to death with a baseball bat, thus Dr. Lee's involvement as the blood splatter expert. Her husband and his best friend were both charged with the murder. People theorized that their idea was to both point the finger at the other so they would be guaranteed reasonable doubt in their separate trials. It didn't work. The husband got life, the friend got about 21 years for manslaughter.

The most fascinating thing about the case is detailed in that book, which is really good. In a rare move, the District Attorney's Office brought in a woman psychic from California who is very low key, never does TV shows or writes books, etc. Both the FBI and CIA have reputedly used her services on many occasions.

Well, they flew her into Louisiana and brought her to the DA's office. She knew nothing about the case. One of the first things they did was show her an aerial photograph of the subdivision where the home is located in which the murder took place. Without saying another word to her, she immediately put her finger on the roof top in the photo of the house where the murder took place. It's a real eery passage to read in the book. Everyone in the DA's office was amazed.

Another interesting tidbit is that to this day no one is sure of what the motive was for the murder. The wife had just had a baby about 5 months before her murder. She supposedly had an affair with the husband's friend. But after she was killed, the husband and the friend sat around in the house for several hours talking (the prosecutors argued they were concocting an alibi). Only the psychic came up with a motive no one thought of, that the murder had something to do with an obsession with pornograpy, tho even she could not pin it down exactly.

If you like to read murder mysteries, it's an excellent book. The husband's friend is actually due to get out of prison next year. It will be interesting to hear what, if anything, he has to say once he knows he can't be tried again.

That sounds like a good book

thanks will look for it.

the unexplained....

My mother went to a psychic when she was little. Eveyrthing the lady said came true. I know MANY of them are nuts and rip offs, but I know there is more out there than we can explian!

Kris

Sounds like a great book, Gary ...

I grew up in Cleveland and we had the Sam Shephard case to watch .... the murder case that the TV series "The Fugitive" was based on.

That's interesting Gary

Is the book about the whole crime, a murder mystery type thing? I'll have to see if I can find that.

Rent the movie "The Gift" if

you want to see a good one about psychics. Billy Bob Thornton wrote the script, and the main character is based largely on his mother, who was a psychic.

It's sort of like Midnight In The Garden of Good & Evil

It's about the crime and also about the two trials. The first one went through a hung jury, if I remember correctly. It should have been a best seller, it really is a good read.
