being a parent is the hardest thing in the world to do, and doing it alone makes it even harder. There was no information given, you don't know what that mother has to do to provide for her children or how much support her family has. Kids are exposed to violence, sex, drugs, on tv, the internet, video games, and in their daily lives and it affects the person they grow up to be. This mother was obviously trying to get the message to these boys that what they did is serious and has serious consequences. I do hope they send them to juvenile jail, it needs to be clear and obvious to all that dog fighting is illegal and will be handled as a very serious crime. They have prgrams where inmates help take care of dogs and train them, that would be perfect for kids like this to be shown the love only a dog can give.

many many parents of 11 and 12 year olds work, and at that age kids are too old for after school care, so they go home alone. Some kids have hours of unsupervised time every day. Then there are school holidays and summer where kids spend LOTS of time with absolutely no supervision, at a time in their lives when they are known for making REALLY bad decisions. They know kids of all ages, and they get into all kinds of trouble all the time. Plus, there aren't a whole lot of consequences anymore for a complete lack of respect of authority and rules. I was really angry about dog fighting videos on you tube, so I did do a search. There are a lot of videos posted from other countries. I still don't quite know how you tube can allow illegal activities to be shown like that. I don't care if it IS legal in other countries, they should be removed. There were also a lot of videos showing people the horrors of it and asking people to stop, but a twisted little miscreant intent on fighting dogs is only going to be encouraged by those horrific scenes.

1-Good on the Mother. We do not know her situation and if this is whats going to get thru to her kids, more power to her.

2-Full marks for whoever wrote the article referring to it as "pulling a Michael Vick". Everyone needs to remember the price for hurting the innocent. And if this helps to remind sponsors and the general public what a complete idiot this guy is (not was) then so be it.

These are basically little kids. They should be punished and maybe monitored for a long time, but I don't know if they are entirely to blame. They were copying grownups. They need to be taught that what they did is very wrong. I'm thinking seeing a shrink and being grounded for a year.

The mother was right and what they did was terrible, but I don't think jail is the answer. That's not going to teach these kids that dogs should be loved, not abused. i think jail (or kids' jaoil) would just make them worse.

how did their families not know what they were doing, where did they get the dogs from??? family pets??? hope they learn their lessons
