first off thanks for all the quick response and help - i love you all !!!
so i drove like a lunatic the 17miles to the bullie vet that i called at 6:09 pm - girl at the reception said i could bring him in right now ... the vet would be there till 7pm !
speed limit 45mph my A%$ lol... i think i drove about 65 through stuffy friday night traffic ;and even cut a red traffic light by driving across the lot of a gasstation .got to the vet at 6:45pm (acording to mapquest its a 30min drive without traffic)
the chick at the front desk now tells me that theire last appointement was at 6:30pm and that the vet still has 3 people to see and wont stay any longer then 7pm - that vet was not the vet i usually go to... the clinic is run by 4 vets - anyways , now the desk chick is asking me whom i spoke to and that they should have told me about the last appoinement ... ! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!!
so i packed bruce back into the car and headed towards the animal clinic WITH EMERGENCY SERVICE closest to my home..... the vet there took bruces temperature poked his belly a bit and gave me and astimate for xrays... $400 !
alternatively i could just watch bruce through the night ...
so we are back home now ... bruce is sleeping, his vital signs are ok ....; no fever,no pale gyms,no bloaded or painfull belly !
i will sleep on the couch tonight with bruce , the ER is 10min up the road and has a vet on call 24/7 (good to know)- just keeping an eye on him and see how he feels tomorrow.... if he is still not better tomorrow , i will take him back to my regular bullie vet !

yep, in it for the money for sure...
The ER vet we had to use here, only 24/7 one, charges you by how late you come in..So, if I came in at 11pm, it would cost more then 10:00pm...they increase their fees every hour!! The good thing tho, I noticed they do not do unneccessary things and the price wasn't too bad... but they run your check/debit card before treatment.....oi!
much bully love~Christine, Dupree, Marley and Savannah
thanks hun ! i know .. those er vets are crazy...the er vet also
to put bruce on an iv for fluids even though i told him twice that he was drinking water..... oh and bloodwork -for whatever reason.... al for extra charge of course ..pfff.. !
of well.. ill be up all night with the big boy.....

Jenny, that is exactly what I would have done..
I don't know how those emergency vets sleep with themselves. They should be ashamed. It is horrible and absurd what they do to helpless pet owners. $400 for an xray is outrageous. They should be ashamed at how they take advantage of pet owners in distress.

I don't rescue animals because I want to feel better about myself, or morally superior to anyone. The best part of my life with animals is the humility they teach and the humanity the foster.
I think I'd look for a new vet when this is all behind you. That vet should have made an exception to see your dog 15 minutes after closing time.
I would do exactly what you are doing. Watch him close and go to the emergency if he seems worse during the night.
