No...it's a flying cocker spaniel! They play a game sort of like "doggie" tag. Elliott races around the yard like the wind. The bullies crouch down and wait to ambush him.

So you will see many solids. I had an awesome mare a few yrs ago that we showed in all breed pleasure futurities. The GH people couldn't figure out where she had come from on the circuit as she was top 10 in the nation in 3 yr old pleasure. I finally fessed up that she was a App and their tongues hit the floor, loved it.

I think there's enough disappointments when you breed for health and sound structure.
Adding an expectation for a specific color raises the chance of disappointment.
I've had a few friends over the years who bred Paints and Appaloosa horses (the breeds that rely on COLOR to make them stand out). They've been disappointed in their foals nearly every year because the color wasn't good enough. (That's why I like Quarter horses so well ... great structure and standard colors makes me happy!)
"Any Solid Color Other than Black (ASCOB)--Any solid color other than black, ranging from lightest cream to darkest red, including brown and brown with tan points. The color shall be of a uniform shade, but lighter color of the feathering is permissible. A small amount of white on the chest and/or throat is allowed; white in any other location shall disqualify"
So, I guess in solid colors there is a lot of leeway.
One additional color that we know for sure is Chocolate. Elliott's mother was chocolate as well as several of his litter mates. There is a pic of a cocker on www.centralpets.com whose name is Sable Beauty. She does not appear to be any of the usual choices of Cocker color. You might want to check her out.

(Elliot is GRAND by the way ...)
Is there such a thing as "sable" as a color for Cocker Spaniels? I know I've been out the dog show loop for a couple years, but I don't recall sable as one of the color choices. I thought it's buff, black, and parti.
My supervisor says she's looking for a sable Cocker Spaniel and is interested in breeding them. Since she IS my supervisor and I don't need any animosity between us, I merely played dumb and asked if buff and sable are the same thing. She said no, that there is definitely a sable color.

And you would think that the cocker would avoid them. But nope...if the bullies don't appear interested in playing...he runs smaller and smaller circles getting ever closer to them. If they still won't give in, he brings a toy - drops it right in front of them - picks it up and takes off with it! That trick they can never resist!
When we brought Elliott home, we were scared to death. Had no idea how he would survive Del Ray! He was the runt of the litter and weighed only 1.8 lbs. at 8 weeks of age! But the spunk he has is nothing short of amazing. He has held his own from Day 1.
Here's Elliott at 8 1/2 weeks of age...(Where's Waldo?)
I will take her and the lab across the street to the golf course in the evenings to run. Of course Jez can't keep up with the lab so she lays flat on her belly watching him. When he comes running back toward me, she will get in her squat position, her hair will stand up on the back and she starts a low level scoot forward. As soon as he gets close, she does a full speed run and her best WWF body slam on him. It is hilarious.

I had one Appaloosa ....
Solid bay.
But the Appaloosa breeding was evident in his eyes and hooves.
Ok yep that's right about the ASCOB...Interesting
that you'd bring up Appaloosa's that,s my breed, although the color isn't as much of an issue for many of us.
Okay ... sable falls under ASCOB

I've never heard of sable.....
and don't remember any new colors added for cockers.
But people still think there are Min Dobermans and Collies and Min Bullies
Speaking of Cocker Spaniels .....

Not afraid of Del Ray at all!

Too Sweet
How very adorable!! The spaniel gets it's exercise and the bullies get to play!! That is one neat arrangement!
Thanks for sharing!!
