Statute can't be used to prosecute Cody's former owner

Just read the entirty of the link you posted. I'm an attorney. Statue 717A isn't applicable. Criminal and civil liability only comes into play when the actions described take place "without the consent of the owner." As Cody's owner, as opposed to a 3rd party, was the one who mistreated him, this statute doesn't apply. So basically, per this statute, the "owner" can "kill or injure an animal maintained at the animal facility." This is does not appear to be an "animal cruelty" law, I'll do some research on Monday to see if Iowa does, in fact, have an animal cruelty law.

Bullie Puppy

Last fall when we were looking for a Puppy that horrid breeder is one of the sites we looked at to get a pup. I am so grateful that we didn't go there. I think we didn't go there because our breeder wouldn't fly her pups and this one had no qualms about it and most of the stuff on that site seemed all about money.

Wrong Statute

I just checked in real quick. Can't belive all that is going on with Cody, so sad, but still such a beautiful boy! The statute you cited is not the correct one, it is in regard to livestock. I'm sure there is a seperate staute regarding "animal" cruely. I'll try and do some legal research atn some point during the remainder of the weekend, but probably won't be able to post anything until Monday.

aint that nice

wow I just looked at my bullies paper and he came from that state too:( God oh God how sad is this....

Well that was a joke!

That wasn't a law for cruelty to animals. It is a law to protect livestock. It doesn't say a damn thing about animal cruelty. Looks like you can hang a person for throwing a rock at your cow but you can torture all the dogs and cats you want too and if you own them, that's your right. Do you think this state protects sisters from their brothers?
