It started what I believe will be that individual's downfall. Ce, I believe you said he spoke with you by telephone. If so, keep all telephone records of those calls. Don't throw away your long distance bills. If you received any emails from him or his sister, keep those also. If you have any objects, such as a dog collar or papers, that may have his or her sister's finger prints on them, put them in a plastic baggy and keep them. Don't let your kids or anyone else touch them.
I realize you are exhausted and stressed out. But as soon as you can, type up a memo of everything you can remember him saying to you. An IRS investigation has been mentioned by some people. But this situation may also present issues of common law fraud, mail fraud, and wire fraud, depending on the facts. Since his sales involve interstate commerce, he may have dug himself into a huge hole, which hopefully the FBI will look into. The Iowa State Police and Attorney General's Office will also hopefully investigate this.
A surprise raid on that person's facility would be a preferred strategy. Otherwise, evidence may be destroyed and burned in advance. Thus, please do not give out that man's name and telephone number to anyone other than law enforcement personnel. If someone from this board calls him to give him a piece of their mind, that could really mess things up.
As soon as you can, let us know how much the vet bills are. I have no doubt we will raise the money for those and future bills to remedy his current conditions.
And Ce, please don't feel the slightest pangs of guilt over any of this. Hopefully we can raise enough money to not only cover Cody's vet bills but also to reimburse those who now say they would not have contributed if they had known of the outcome. I'll be sending another contribution as soon as I re-locate your paypal address. As I said in relation to the first contribution, it's yours to use in whatever way you see fit.
Authorities..
Should have been taken with Ce when she "purchased" Cody. (undercover) He probably reads this board!
Unfortunately
People cannot be held to what they "might" have done. It should have been done and then this gentleman could have been held to answer. That's the way it works in California anyway.
Let's hope the ends justifies the means.
As always, good thoughts to Cody and I'll just wait and see how this one pans out.
Exactly...
With Cody away from there, we accomplish more than our number one goal of saving Cody. We have solid proof. Now it is not empty allegations with nothing to back them. The photos alone will go a long way in making the authorities take notice.
Don't the police sometimes conduct a drug purchase so that they can nab a dealer??

Very well said ..........n/m

Anna ... if only it were that simple
I agree with you ... the end of money will end the problem.
But .. he was prepared to offer this dog, baggage and all, as an "investment" opportunity to the naive. Even if we hadn't been the ones to get him out of there, I have no doubt that Cody would have been sold to SOMEBODY. And that somebody could have continued to use Cody in the same deplorable manner.
Since we can't reach all the uneducated individuals who would buy a dog under these circumstances, this seems to be a reasonable endeavor.
We will make an example of this guy.
Gary, you're forgetting something
How can it be fraud when this animal was presented to them, sores and problems and all, and they still purchased him?
Fraud is defined as deception. How many people purchased puppies from this person and then returned and bought Cody as well?
As horrific as this is, there's going to be a helluva problem getting around this one when this dog's health history and this owner's history was documented all over this board PRIOR to giving him money. I can look back here right now and read all the posts about how horrible this person is. Was anything done about him THEN?
You want to stop something like this from happening? Want to know how it starts?
STOP GIVING THESE PEOPLE MONEY.
How difficult is this concept to understand?
Wait on Breeder contact, Leigh, I think...
until the lawyers get together and decide how to procede to get the info to really nail him. None of us want to mess that up by acting hastily.
Adding to Gary's post
I have not been around for most of what has transpired with Cody. But in reading the posts this weekend it occurred to me that the state in which he was sold might have a deceptive trade act. Texas has such an act that entitles you to three times the purchase price when a seller misreprents themselves.
Also has anyone contacted the breeder of Cody? She is listed on his pedigree on the website. As a breeder I would want to be contacted and would make arrangements to take one of my dogs back and care for them.
Very heartwarming to see how you all have worked to help this dog.

Go after him, Gary!
You and Joanna can get all of the lawyer stuff going. The other bullies need to get out of there, too.
repost..."I don't think"
I don't think that the people that are trying to cause trouble (same ones every time, too...lol) have even contributed to this...so there are no worries.
The other people that are just voicing concern about paying the bad guy...well, they just have valid concerns and should be able to voice them...i don't think they want money back.
I think EVERYBODY is going to be THRILLED if that money helps to bring down the "breeder". The only concerns were that we shouldn't make a habit of rescuing animals by paying a lot of money for them, therefore enabling the "breeders" to mistreat even more animals.
I think it has been established, that we will not just let it go. Everything will be tried to get that guy down....to get the dogs away from him. I think everyone is in agreement that this would be money well spent...not just to rescue Cody, but to get the others out of the situation.
Now we will just put our trust into the great gals here that are working on it behind the scenes and let them do what needs done.
In time we will all hear the outcome, until then we shouldn't jeopardize anything by being hasty..(i know i was red hot angry this morning and ready to storm that bastards house..lol, but i have cooled off now)
