I'm thankful for this website because ....

this is the place that permitted me to heal when everything turned bad.

There are very few show breeders/exhibitors that continued to stay in contact once we weren't in the ring anymore. A number of the show people suggested I either send Pride back to the breeder or put her down and start fresh with a new Bully. NOT HARDLY!!

Bulldogs are COMPANIONS FIRST ... if the showing works out, that's just wonderful. But for us, things fell apart (big-time!) and the pet owners are the ones who came forward to offer hugs.

AKC specifically states...

...that a dog with a pallette procedure done can not be shown. Yet, as I have learned, many "top of the line breeders" continue to do so.

It was a big dilemma that Gail faced with her Pride, and she choose to not show and not break the rules after Pride had her surgery.

I say it is all for the better cuz now Pride has a cushy life at home with her Momma loving all over her! (not that she wouldn't have otherwise )

And we're so grateful for YOU Gail. =)

Really. I don't mean to be all mushy, but I know I am grateful for your friendship and knowing you are always there for me.

And besides, Pride's a STAR having won the Christmas contest on the NICEST bulldog website EVER. Who needs the RING?!

We're always here for you and Pride.

And we are grateful to you for being a great bullie mom, show or

Harness and cart or wagon ....

Then all of our family and friends can enjoy a "ride" as well ....

Noah is very pretty ... sorrell (red) with white stockings (markings) on all 4 legs. He's quite tall already, taller than our quarter horse gelding.

He's pretty sweet too. What I'm experiencing with him is not out of the norm for a young, curious mule boy!

I hope that she continues to get better

She is such a sweetheart. Just through this board you can get a feel for some of the dogs personalities and she seems like such a love.

Gail...

I have admired pride from day one, she has such a luvable mug, I enjoy all you say and especially enjoy your stories about Noah! You are truly among friends.

What is driving??

I really am out of touch. Although looking at your pictures, I would move there in a minute.

Margaret!

I may ask Webbie to delete your post so hubbie doesn't see it ... I get the same questions from hubbie!

I got Noah shortly after Pride began having all her trouble. I told my husband that he needed to help me buy a mule so that I wouldn't go out and buy another Bully. He immediately got out the checkbook. Mules are hybrids, and incredibly hardy. No real health concerns with them. And Noah should live long enough to haul me to my funeral.

I actually belong to a driving club in our area and to the Montana Longears Association. Noah is still quite young, but he will be primarily used for driving.

If I could tear myself away from this website, he'd be getting more training time!

Question about Noah!

Is Noah a mule? what does he do around your farm? Just exist or does he pull a wagon or anything? Just curious. He seems to give you a lot of trouble. I live in the city, so am out of touch.

I'm thankful because...

Gail, I think you are right. Bullies should be valued for their personalities first, selected for best health, along with conformation. They have just the best personalities and I really tell anyone who asks not to get one for their looks, only for their personalities because they need loving, devoted owners who will take care of them. Once you get to know one, nothing else will do. They just have such a presence. They are so loving and sweet. It is amazing.

I am trying to understand the show issues, conformation, etc. to learn more. So I will understand why one is deemed better than another. I don't think my eye is good at separating things out, though. I realized when I was looking for another bully, that knowing people who are into bullies is very necessary to learn what are healthy lines, good lines, etc. So you know something and are not going into the whole puppy thing blind. I was almost afraid to get a puppy. So I have tried to get self educated on this. I plan to keep up with this, going to a few shows and club meetings a year so I will know people. I think the show arena is valuable to learn about things, to bring people together, but I am not into the judgement over looks, really.

I think bully value is inherent in each one, not in their show results. The same can be said about people.

How's Pride doing now?

She's a beauty no matter what.

you are amoung friends

I knwo I wasn't around when Pride had his original problems....but I can only imagine what it was like.

I honestly can' tunderstand the mentality of a lot of people who show. I don't know what it is - but it feels like some loose track of the dog in everything. Pride is just that - he is your pride, joy and love.

Great idea Pat...another one for you Gail...

Perhaps you need to post Noah's picture "over there" as to your new "show prospect"....

Re: What exactly was wrong with Pride

She has a growing history of respiratory difficulty .. she nearly died more than once from pneumonia and stubborn bacterial infection. Her immune system is not as strong as it should be.

She also had to have a palate section when she was close to 2 years old .. that alone makes her ineligible for continued showing.

She is an amazing little girl. Miss Personality and so smart! .. I can't imagine being without her.

This site rules!! Everyone here seems to have a heart of gold!

Have only been on the site for a couple of months, but everyone here has a big heart! They lend you a hand when you need it and a good laugh to pick ya up.

It just doesn't matter

about showing..... we all love our kids, and this is the BEST place to share that love with such loving, caring people. Gail, let's start showing Noah??? What ya think????

What exactly was wrong with Pride

Does she have a condition that goes away and comes back. She is so beautiful and what a Love. Your right companions first.

This is the best place for a lot of things...

...healing.. ..encouragement.. ..friendship.. ..sharing.. ..learning.. ..leaning-on.. ..venting.. ..creating.. ..asking.. ..helping.. ..understanding.. ..loyalty.. ..honesty.. ..seeking.. ..humor.. ..crying.. ..(((((HUGS))))).. ..excitment.. ..expectation.. ..loving.. ..sincerity.. ..artistry.. ..information.. ..acceptance.. ..diversity.. ..commaradarie.. ..and many more.. I think most of all.. ..LOVE!!!

Thanks Webbie for leading us..!!

Palate section....???

If the procedure did not alter the external face, why would she be ineligible? I've been advised that dogs
who have undergone cosmetic external procedures to
enhance appearance are ineligible to compete.
Please advise if this is incorrect.

Pride's critics... :(

The story of the Newfie at the Cruft's Dog Show is
similar.
The dog was ordered from Europe by someone in the US,
critics advised to send the dog back. They did, and wouldn't you know it? The dog is a 7 time World Champion.
The title of Critic doesn't necessarily mean
Intelligent Critic or Knowledgeable Critic or.....
If you are proud of that gorgeous bully...show her
anyway! Just because you can.
