I'm super excited! Winnie's skin is much better! (long, sorry)

For the last year & a half, Winnie's had increasing allergy issues. She's had inter-digital cysts, rashes that got infected, bumps on her face that wouldn't heal, licking her feet constantly, at one time she got so bad she looked like she had ringworm cause her hair was falling out in patches! She's been on antibiotics & antihistamines, special shampoo & ear-wash, daily wipes. The tipping point was she had a spectacular case of hives and needed a steroid shot. We've had her on Innova, Evo, Welness Core, Welness Ocean, after the hives, Royal Canin vet prescriptive Rabbit & Potato. (BTW the vet LOVES ME! happy.gif

Awhile ago I got the book "Dr.Pitcairn's complete guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats" So using his recipes as a guide I've been making Winnie's food. It's been about 3 weeks and she's doing great!. I wanted to do a novel protein and someone on BDW suggested pork. So we're doing lean pork (loin type meat) red potato & Oats. I got online and got the supplements from Dr.Pitcairn's book to add to the food ie; calcium, multi vitamin, kelp powder, brewers yeast, vitamin c. It's been about 3 weeks since we started cooking for her. I've been trying to make up enough to last about a week at a time. I put half in the freezer in ziplocs and half in the fridge. She's absolutely crazy about the food. She's pooping once a day, nice and firm. Her skin is completely clear, no redness between the toes, her coat looks better than ever and the little bump on her face that wouldn't heal is gone! She's lost some weight too! I'm keeping the prescriptive kibble for emergencies or travel.
I still have her on the antihistamine, as I think she may have some environmental allergy.
I'm still sort of doing the elimination diet but I hope to add some veggies and other protein sources back in slowly to change it up and make sure she's getting the nutrition she needs.

Yay!

I'm so glad she's feeling better. =)

A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one Year and out the other.

That's so awesome Rhonda!!

I'm so happy for you and Winnie - it's so rewarding when we finally get that right mix for your baby, especially when you start seeing the rewards of it!!

I am a total believer in raw & cooking for your dogs..there are a ton of great kibble out there, but with the companies changing forumals so often and not having to report it on the label for 6 months or more after the change, I'm thinking more & more this is the way to go - then you have total control over what your dog is eating, what a relief!!
