I sware, I will clip her nails one day and the next thing I know they are super long!
The reason I ask, is because that was one of the things she HATES, she also hates getting her wrinkles/eyes/ears cleaned. I dont think that her previous owners worked with her very much.
In any case... It is really a dramatic ordeal to cut her nails. I know thy arnt suposse to click on the ground, but... how often is that for your dogs?
Once a week
Saturday morning is our grooming day, ears, nails, etc. We have cut Sumo's nails once a week since we got him at 10 weeks old. As he got older he developed the longest, thickest nails and quicks so if I don't trim them weekly he clicks when he walks.
He loves to get pampered and lays like a big ol' lump.
Del Ray's nails (pic)
Del Ray loves having her nails trimmed! All the while Cole is trimming her nails, I rub her chest and tell her she is such a good girl. We trim hers about every 2 weeks. You can see in the pic how relaxed she is...Sometimes when we're done she doesn't want to get up!

About every 2-3 weeks
but they do grow fast. I use a Dremel tool. There is a thread maybe a week back. It is much easier than clipping. Check out the website www.doberdawn.com for instructions on how to do it.
I got Flora at 18 months and she hates clipping nails, but has settled down with the dremel tool so that she will just sit there for me now. I got a cordless one so when she scoots away, I can scoot with her.
I really think that they hate clipping so bad because once you get the quick they are afraid of it. It's hard to never get the quick.
Good luck!
That a good idea! N/M
Lucy
yeah... we rescued lucy... and she HATES IT... you would think by the way she acts i was trying to kill her!
But, my other dog doesnt mind it, we got her as a puppy.
Re: How oftern do you trim your dogs nails?
I trim Dozer and Lexus' nails about once every 10 days. Dozer we have had since 8 weeks. He doesn't care a bit and his never grows very long at all. They stay very well manicured. I have only had Lexus since December, 2002. She was eleven months when I got her and I don't think that the previous owner had ever trimmed them took good care of her for that matter. I have to get hers quite more frequently because of that reason. I have had her going on four months and I am just know getting them in shape and I have to do hers once a week. Keep up on them and they will soon slow down.
