I was just curious. I had been taking out my 8 month old puppy about 6 times a day but it just seemed like so much expecially at her age. So I've started to take her out 4 to 5 times a day. I want to get it down to 4 for now, 3 times would be great but that would be impressive.
Anyway, I take her out in the morning after I feed her (I only give her water at her feeding times). Then five hours later, then I take her out after dinner, and once more before I go to bed.
If she had it her way she'd be going out a lot more often but whenever she goes by the door after only going out 2 or 3 hours earlier I put her in her crate until it's time for her to go out. If I don't put her in her crate she'll pee right in front of me on her blanket.
I'm hoping the less frequent trips outside will help her learn how to hold her bladder.
Any ideas or comments?
Doggy Door here
Ake has a doggy door at my office and at home so he goes when he wants. He is now 6 months old and actually slept through the night not long after I got him must have been about 3 months of age. I have been lucky. On weekends he can go to bed and sleep in until 11:00 or so. The doggy door is a God send...
Nance and Ake
Same schedule for us that Gary does...
With the new pup he has been great. We have only had him since Wednesday but no accidents!!! Bella loves outside. Sometimes I have to beg her to come in. She will sit out there and stare at me. Then she will finally give in and run inside. Major on the otherhand as soon as you let him out he pees and run right back to the door.
a bird bell
that looks like a mini cow bell. And it hangs from a cord that is nose height. We started it when we got her (12 weeks old) and we sould just ring the bell and say "wanna go out" and within a month she was ringing the bell. (I can't remember how long it took her to catch on, but I know we had company over a month later and they were impressed with her trick)
I also bought some jingle bells and added them to the string, just for more noise.
What kind of bell?
That's a great idea. How did you train her to use it? how does it work?
Mine both differ.
Jez is 2 1/2 years old so she can hold it for quite a while. Tinker is a different story. She wakes me up at 3 a.m. every morning to go out, then again at 5:30 to eat and outside to poop. On weekdays she is at the main house that has a doggy door so she can come and go as she pleases. On weekends at the mini house, I let her out at least four times during the day, once again after dinner and one last time at about 9 p.m. The little stink has actually gotten so smart that a couple of nights ago I made her go out at 9 to pee. She didn't have to go, but she knew I wasn't going to let her in until she did, so she ran out, squatted (did nothing!) and turned around and ran back in the house.
Daisy lets us know
when she wants to go out by ringing a bell we have hanging from the back door doorknob. Sometimes she just wants to sit on the porch and look around or some times she goes to the gate to be nosey and watch whats going on (usually nothing) But sometimes she actually has to potty.
During playtime and 4 other times.
I have Bully out for 3-4 hours everyday to exercise, so he urinates a lot then at the park. I also take him out 4 other times to urinate when we are at our home.
On days off, I take them out about 5 times a day
As soon as I get up in the morning, right before noon, around 4 in the afternoon, around 8 in the evening, and again just before bed time, about 11 pm.
