How many of you have bulldogs that licked holes in your sheetrock?

when Boo was a puppy, she licked about 7 good size holes in my sheetrock. Fortunately, she stopped doing that long ago (I ended up spraying lots and lots of Bitter Apple on the sheetrock). I'm wondering how common that is, if at all. Also wondering, in hindsight, if it was due to some deficiency in her diet. I find it hard to believe that she actually like the taste of paint and sheetrock but suspect she was seeking out something related to nutrition, such as salt (a pure guess). I can't recall for sure which dog food I was feeding her at the time. Probably Science Diet, but I'm not sure. Just wondering if there might have been any connection between the wall licking and the dog food I fed her back then.

Pudgie did a couple times

And she too stopped around 3 years old. She is a paw licker to this day, so maybe she was looking for a change of pace, I don't know. Just glad she stopped.

Bulldog ate half a sheet of drywall!

Dan (hubby) had a bulldog once that ate as far as he could reach up the sheet of drywall! Dan would leave one dog out of the crate each day in the "dog room" so that they could have some freedom, etc. Well, after this one got the munchies, they all had to stay in their crates every day! LOL

If I remember correctly, the bulldog pooped drywall for a while, but was ok in the end.

MySpace Countdowns

chairs, built-ins

When I was a kid we had a bulldog named Nipper who would cat wooden chairs, the corners of built-ins and any thing else he could get his teeth on.

Maybull licks rugs and her bed. Also, her daddy's feet. She seems to like rough surfaces. But if we tell her not to lick something, she'll stop.

Oscar was king of sheetrock licking

He licked the wall and i just thought it was funny til 2 weeks later it was a huge hole. He was only 8 months or so then. He now 4. I fed him Beneful (yes I know) back then. Now he is on natural balance duck and potato and I see no wall licking in his future.

Never thought anyone elses dog did that too.. Kinda funny LOL

All of mine would be happy to chew on drywall if they were bored

It's never happened in the house, fortunately. They chewed a few holes in the garage drywall when I first installed their kennels out there. I ended up covering all of the exposed drywall with melamine coated panels. Then they started chewing on the edge of the Perla beds that I had in their kennels, so I put wire crates with the doors off in there. So now it's the edge of their crate pads that gets chewed. If they're bored, they'll find something to chew on.

Winston Ate...

Winston's favorite seat in an old house that I had was on the couch with his front feet dangling over the arm rest next to a corner of the living room. One day I came home to find a hole about 1/2 an inch deep with the diameter of a grapefruit right next to where his mouth would be if he were to turn his head. I surmised the wall was a mid-afternoon distraction from the boredom of the cartoons we left on for him. I don't think he licked the hole, though he may have... It seems unlikely that he pulled off that much licking in one day.

It was a one time thing, thank god, but definitely a memorable moment!

Max is another guilty one.

He did this behind the end table. I always thought he was being a good boy sleeping and the next thing I know, he has licked several baseball size holes right thru the drywall. He did all this before 1 year of age, and thankfully has not done it since.

Isn't it amazing how round the holes come out?

Boo was pretty darn good at getting round holes instead of vertical boxes.

what is sheetrock??

Do you mean baseboards? if you mean Baseboards both the bullies I had did this. Mason is not as bad as Bailey my first bulldog but a close second..

No Licking

but we have had a chewed corner of the wall in the kitchen from little Miss Ester. Of course it was right after we remodeled. I fixed the area but have yet to repaint it.

I was wondering if I was the only one that has happened to..

Tango licked two perfectly round holes in our sheetrock... At first I wasn't sure at first if the baby had run his toys into the wall or what had happened. Then I saw him licking it one day.

My dogs have probably eaten a collective small house!

If you add up the walls, doorways, gates, furniture and bedding, you could build and furnish Dawn's cottage!!

Louie loves to eat the walls

and the woodwork.........
He has chewed a windowsill that was just at the right height..the bottom step and the wall around it.......the base of the entertainment center.........and you'll have to ask Joanne about her walls he ate! Wood, paint and sheetrock must be very tasty!!!

He's lucky he is so cute!

my first bulldog did it

I thought he was chewing happily on the cow hoof as I worked at my desk. Only to look over and see a 6 inch diameter hole in the dry wall. After patching the area it got the Bitter Apple treatment. I think I might have been feeding him Purina at the time but it was sooooo long ago.
