Went to a bulldog club meeting recently and the vet gave a lecture on poisoning and grapes were on the list of what not to eat. Grapes and raisins have something in them that can be toxic to dogs. They don't know if it's in the fruit itself or in a mold found on them. They don't think it is a pesticide found on them. That's all I know.

Oh, when I bring Chinese food home, I give them most of the vegetables, which they love, tho I think only because of the tasty gravy rather than for the vegetables themselves. I only eat the mushrooms and carrots, they get the rest of them.
When my mother was alive, she used to make an egg salad for my previous bulldog once a week. Clovis I just loved it. She also loved seafood gumbo and hot tamales.

Let's see, well, each gets a half cup of Wellness in the morning, plain and dry.
For dinner, they get a cup of Science Diet with either 1/3 of a can of Mighty Dog on top, or a slice turkey hot dog, or a slice of Butterball Carving Board turkey breast. Except on Fridays, when they each get a Popeye's fried chicken breast, mild not spicy. About once a month they get a slice of pizza, which they are crazy for. Twice a week, they split a peanut butter sandwich three ways with Scout, the Lhasa. Also use peanut butter to give them their Glucosamine/MSM pill. And twice a week I eat Banquet Salisbury Steak TV dinners, which I love, and I spoon the gravy on their dry dog food. They are crazy for that too.
I once made the mistake of giving them some Popeye's Cajun Rice, which turned them into diarrhea machines and nearly put me in a mental hospital from cleaning it up. A single experience with boiled shrimp gave the same result.
And I sometimes bring back a giant meatball from a local restaurant and split that up among them.
The only food item that has caused a real problem has, ironically, been a dry dog food, Nutro, which caused major tear stains on Clovis.
Sumo has always been a picky eater so we've had to coax him to his bowl forever. He gets a tiny bit of shredded cheese along with cut up chicken or turkey lunchmeat with his kibble at both meals. Sometimes he gets tiny pieces of liver sausage sprinkled on top. He also gets a taste of whatever we are eating and a doggie bag when we go out to dinner and eat something he can have.
Plus twice a week he shares a slice of pizza with me at lunchtime and when he's a good boy we go to McDonalds for a burger and a few fries.
Don't feed dogs grapes or raisins. They are not sure why, but these can be toxic to dogs.
Don't feed onions as they can be associated with a hemolytic anemia.
Don't feed dogs chocolate as it contains a chemical that can cause heart arrythmias and renal failure. Eating chocolate, especially a large amount of dark chocolate, is an emergency. You need to call the vet right away.
Flora was raised by an older woman bulldog lover who always cooked for her dogs from scratch until she no longer could. Now she cooks meat and puts it over kibble. I tried every way I could think of to avoid having to do this on a regular basis, but she thrives on it. I put chicken or beef cooked, over Wellness chicken dog kibble. twice a day every day. She does the best on it. What can I say. I blame it on her previous owner. Her coat is beautiful. No tear stains. Holds her weight without getting too fat. She won't even eat a dog biscuit, she is so spoiled. Only meat or cheese for treats.
I am not advocating this feeding regimen, just being truthful.
I usually give Milo and Gertie a peice of something when we're eating dinner. Milo eats anything and everything especially if he sees me eat it. Im slowly giving gertie some stuff but not to much as I think she has a sensitive stomach. Milos really good just like Patti's babies, he just sits there and waits and is sooo quiet, but DROOOLS! Gertie on the other hand goes up the wall trying to get a bite! Milos absolute favorite is pizza crust. I'll only give them a bite or too, not to much. Or I'll pour the steak juice on Milos Eukanoobies, he loves that!

Arthur has been given a variety of foods, most he likes. He does not like any dog food except kibbles & bits. I've not had to ever worry about him gorging himself, as he never has on any food item. It would be much faster to list what he doesn't like. LOL
Ohh well I am a pushover! Already today he has had a piece of velveta(to wrap a pill in) and a pizza crust.
Some days he has none and others a lot. I try and mainly stick to meat or cheese but like I said occasionally he will get the last bite of my sandwhich or pizza crust etc. Believe it or not he is not overweight in the slightest! But I do watch because our Cocker Spaniel was huge by the time she reached old doghood because I could never say no to her!

not while I'm eating. I add various things to their dry kibble (Wellness) each night, such as meat (beef, chicken, turkey, pork, fish, etc), potatoes, cottage cheese, yogurt, veggies, pasta, eggs, rice, etc. They mostly get leftovers from our dinner. Yep, spoiled rotten bullies here!
We always allow Homer to have a few bites of whatever we are eating. He knows when we are eating, and he will usually wait patiently until he gets a morsel of whatever it is. His favorite by far is Chipotle chicken. We never unload table scraps, or overdo it. Simply hand feed him three or four bites of whatever we are eating. Our little guy plays with us, swims with us, vacations with us, goes for drives with us, and sleeps in bed with us every night, so he might as well be a part of our mealtime.
Fluff and Chancey share in just about every meal we have. Fluff is a little more picky, but Chancey will eat just about anything if I'm eating it. If I'm eating a salad, I'll pick out a cucumber, or piece of lettuce, or a tomato, and she eats it. Fluff isn't too hot about salad or most veggies. However, they BOTH love broccoli. And of course, any other meat, etc. we have.
But, they don't get pushy begging. They will just sit there, waiting, knowing that they will be given a piece of something every once in a while.
I do feel it is an acquired taste, though. The others will get scraps of meet, juice, etc. over their food. But they don't go for all the veggies and fruit that Chancey will... By the way, Chancey loves pears, peaches, just about anything, if you are eating it.
And, with all this, no allergy problems. They eat their normal Purina Pro Plan Chicken and Rice, but they know when it's dinner for us, they usually get some, too. Of course, don't forget the ice cream!!

I gave her a jelly bean once, just to see what she would do with it. She played with it for half an hour, puckering her lips out, holding it there, spitting it out, picking it up.....over and over. It made me laugh so hard, maybe that's why she kept doing it. Obviously jelly beans are not something you would want to feed your bulldog. I just wanted to see what she would do. The other day my roommate wanted to give Ruby a piece of popcorn and I told her that was okay as long as she went in the other room, opened Ruby's dog food bag, and pretended like she pulled it out from there. Ruby doesn't beg for food and as long as I never let her get that connection, she won't. Believe me, it is so nice to have a dog who doesn't beg for scraps. After watching my roomie's pug stare at her and beg every time she eats, I am happy I haven't fed Ruby a lot of people food. Her dog also knocks over the garbage can routinely to pick through it and she doesn't eat her dog food very well. After my roomie gave Ruby the popcorn, she ate it and we continued to munch on it ourselves, but she never came over to us to beg. She honestly thought it came from her dog food bag and didn't connect it to us. Something healthy that I have fed Ruby is chicken and rice. I made up a bunch of it, put it in sandwich bags, and put it in the freezer. That way I could just pull out one bag, heat it up, and voila! Instant dog meal. I would mix it in with her dog food. I only did that because she was kind of thin and I was trying to get her to put on weight. Anyway, have fun with your bullie baby.

we are also trying not to teach Leeloo to associate our eating with yummy food... so up until now she's only ever had a couple of grapes (she use to play with them until one day she popped one in her mouth and now as soon as I roll one her way for playing, she chomps on it, tee hee hee, silly bullie!) but it's been working great... she doesn't beg, when we eat she goes and lays on her bed or plays on her own. Good doggie!

we just can't resist those sad eyes. If it is something healthy, we usually let Sheldon have a taste. If we are eating Chicken, Steak, Vegetables or Fruit, he usually gets a bite. Sometimes, I also slip him a wheat thin or a pretzel. Yesterday, he had his very first scambled egg. Sheldon will eat anything!

It's funny that you said he gets grapes sometimes. My really good friend had an African Grey parrot, and his name was Grover too. The one thing I will always remember the most about Grover was he would go around saying, "green grapes...green grapes". Just funny the Grover/grape connection. I'm not a big bird person (they kinda scare me), but he was great.
Grover gets an occasional grape. But we never feed him table scraps.
I highly recommend, if you are GOING to, which I know you will, that you not feed her directly from the table. Or while you're eating. As long as she doesn't associate tasty food with your plates or while you're eating, she won't beg. She won't make the connection between the two.
Honestly, Grover never begs, if you can believe it. He doesn't even know what we're doing when we're eating. It was my husband's idea to never let him make the connection. I'm really glad I listened to him!

Salisbury Steak Dinners????!!!!
OMG, you really are a bachelor! Every single guy I know just loves that meat-like-substance called Salisbury Steak!!!

Oh, yeah... And I can't forget the peanut butter!!! We use it daily to give her pills (glucosemine (sp?) & omega 3 & 6).
Carrots, apples & bananas
Bailey LOVES granny smith apples. She makes a cute face but comes back for more!
Carrots are always a special treat.
Once in a blue moon, she'll get just a bite of a banana.
Besides that, it's Wellness & Old Mother Hubbard treats.
Cheers,
