Henry builds a nest.....
Submitted by Wendy41898 on April 20, 2010 - 5:27pmOK, so it wasnt really HENRY that built the nest. Every year, I try AND FAIL to have pretty flowers on my front porch. Every year those damn birds lay a nest in my hanign flower plants and I quit watering them out of fear for the eggs/baby birds. I chase those birdies off my porch summer after summer.
Well this year, I, Mrs. BlackThumb, got some Miracle Grow Sticks, some pretty hanging flowers and decided to try again. I was doing so well! They were gorgeous and full and so pretty! I was so proud of myself. Look waht I found the other day. Damn things have some kind of vendetta against me!
So we checked it out. Here are Henrys birdie eggs. He seems to like them more than I do...lol. At least she built the nest on top of the plant stems so I can water under the nest and not hurt the eggs. I guess that was a little considerate of her..lol.

Actually, the babies are quite sweet. I dont know if Im gonna try taking the pics again once they hatch. Im afraid Henry might jerk his leash forward suddenly and chomp them!

Let you in on a little secret....
I do love seeing the babies. I usually end up not watering the plant because Im afraid of hurting the eggs somehow. I watered it the other day and then thought to peek in to see...
There was standing water in the nest. I tipped the nest a little to let it drain out and re-positioned it a little higher so I wouldnt hurt them.
But I swear this bird cant stand for me to have flowers...lol. Or maybe its that she loves it so much she builds a nest in it every year?? hmmm.
Oh well. At least she was considerate enough to do it on top of the stems not in the dirt this time so I can still water!

however I love it when the birds gift me with entrusting their nests and babies to my gardens...
it's a lovely little nest...and just look at Henry...too sweet...
every year my Einstien ( my robin) builds me his nest under my eaves trough..and after he migrates I add it to my collection of gifts from him...smile
