You can help curb the production of puppy mill dogs for profit by taking the time to e-mail the USDA and express your support for
their proposal that would require puppy millers to document all veterinary care provided for the dogs they sell. The enactment of
this proposal would put many puppy millers out of business.
Just copy and paste the e-mail below and send to: regulations@aphis.usda.gov. Be sure to put Docket No. 97-033-1 in the subject
line and include your name and address.
You can bet the puppy millers are drumming up lots of opposition. Let's not let them win again.
To Whom It May Concern,
RE: Docket No. 97-033-1
I wholeheartedly support the USDA proposal that would require puppy mills to keep complete medical records for every dog in their
kennels for at least one year after they dispose of a dog.
This proposed requirement is greatly needed and long overdue. I urge you to enact this important regulation.

Yes it will help this cause for sure! Anything that makes it harder or requires more details and informationa and accountablity is worth while in teh fight againts millers! so everyone please send a email in all your screen names to the usda, they do listen, I can attest to that!

Is there a easy way to email this other than just re typing it. I'm not good with this machine but I would like to e mail it to my clubs and friends.
Here is more information - we need to do this...
I went to the web site listed about, and found the news release that this is about.
Sounds like something we need to ALL band together and flood them with. And, if anyone has contacts with other breed discussion boards, etc, pass it on to them. Get all the breeds writing on this.
Sounds like a step in the right direction.

USDA PROPOSES TO AMEND ANIMAL WELFARE ACT MEDICAL RECORDS REGULATIONS
WASHINGTON, April 10, 2003--The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service seeks comments on a proposed change to the Animal Welfare Act regulations.
USDA is proposing to require that research facilities, dealers and exhibitors maintain medical records as part of their program of adequate veterinary care. Currently, the maintenance of records is implied and certain aspects of medical histories are required. The proposed regulations, however, would specifically require a detailed accounting of certain aspects of medical histories.
Notice of this proposal is scheduled for publication in the April 11 Federal Register. APHIS documents published in the Federal Register and related information, including the names of organizations and individuals who have commented on APHIS dockets, are available on the Internet at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ppd/rad/webrepor.html.
Consideration will be given to comments received on or before June 10. Send an original and three copies of postal or commercial delivery comments to Docket No. 97-033-1, Regulatory Analysis and Development, PPD, APHIS, Suite 3C71, 4700 River Road, Unit 118, Riverdale, Md. 20737-1238. If you use e-mail, address your comments to regulations@aphis.usda.gov. Your comments must be contained in the body of the message; do not send attached files. Please include your name and address in the message and use "Docket No. 97-033-1" on the subject line.
Comments may be reviewed at USDA, Room 1141 South Building, 14th Street and Independence Avenue, S.W., Washington, D.C., between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays. People wishing to review comments are requested to call ahead on (202) 690-2817 to facilitate entry into the comment reading room.
