Help AGAIN!!! Please!!

UGGGGGGGGGGG ok so here is a quick follow up to yesterdays post....I took the NB fish and potatoe back to the store and go the venison and sweet potatoe. I fed him last nite and all was well, we went to my friends and he played ALOT with a boxer puppy then when we came home he ate what was left in his bowl and seemed fine. So, I go home today for lunch and fed him one cup of his new kibble and AGAIN!! within 10 minutes, his eyes were bright red and do were his gums. What could this be? I checked his mouth for stuck hairs and there were none. His air licking is under control because I keep desitin in his tail pocket....Could the problem be something to do with his eating? Should I take back the NB and get a new brand? I am sooooo frustrated. Thank you everyone foryour help, I appreciate so much!

Have you....

...tried or considered a raw diet for him? Forgive me if this has been suggested already - I'm not on all the time so I don't know if you've already been down this road.

I only make the suggestion because it sounds like Bubba is a lot like Chunk was. Chunk had TERRIBLE food allergies. He was allergic to rice and potato and pretty much every other grain on the planet - they caused all sorts of problems... constant IDCs... hair loss... goopy eyes... horrible ears - infections / black gunk / you name it... AND he was the pickiest eater I have ever encountered in a canine.

Putting him on a raw diet changed everything. Not only did it help clear up most of his chronic problems but he SCARFED (and I mean SCARFED!) every meal.

Now, I should add here that I fed him Natures Variety Venison... and as if to prove what a picky eater he was, he REFUSED to eat the lamb... didn't respond well to the beef... and would only eat the chicken if I heated it slightly in the microwave. I tried other brands and proteins too but he would ONLY eat the NV Venison. Talk about picky! He was such a brat.

Anyway, that's just my experience w/the combo of food allergy / picky eater. I hope you find a solution that works for Bubba. Believe me, I KNOW how frustrating the process is...

Good luck and give that handsome boy a butt scratch from me.

NB Chicken and SP

Josie is my skin issue, pink face, red eye food eating machine. I have found less of all of these symptoms with the Chicken & SP. I tried the Fish, Venison,, and Duck version of the grain free NB, and the chicken has offered the least amount of issues. I am going to be trying the Wellness Core starting tomorrow. It has zero grains, and a good level of protein. I will uppdate when i have a good picture of Josie aka "Pinky" after eating it for a few days. Foods need 4-6 weeks of trial to see long term results. Keep us posted.

Natural Balance as well as other have limited ingredients diets.

natural balance..
has a lamb, rice and sunflower oil one too
as does california natural..

all companies have usually a limited ingredient diet in their dog food lines
for alergies in dogs..and such
look for a dogfood that uses Rice..and RICE ONLY with a meat source..
keep it simple..

Thanks Elaine, I

I appreciate your advice, I checked his mouth for hairs and found none, I appreciate your detailed response, it was very kind of you....

Bubba is VERY picky eater

He wont eat green beans or anything like that, he does well when I feed him chicken and rice. What's your email? I need more info on what things I can cook! Thank you VERY much!

Well thank you! I didn't even think of that

That makes sense....he was fine on NB for a year and now all of a sudden he's allergic again,I just don't get it!

could it be the potatoes? I had...

i had a similar issue with kibby... where i thought she allergic to all grains, but it turns out she was ok with rice! all of these allergy foods seem to use some form of potato which was making kibby yeasty in the ears and face...so then i switched to nature's variety... they have chicken and rice or salmon and rice.... or chicken or salmon without rice (they use tapioca)but that my my girls poo too soft...

so i am happy to say that kibby is doing well on the salmon and brown rice formula.

Amber

you may need to start cooking for him, It has been a week wince I started to home cook for Lily & rocky , and all I can say is "what took me so long" the results are pretty incredible, It is really easy to cook for them, if your interested to know more about it email me . But I think this is the only way to go for your boy with his allergies, unles your ready to feed raw.

No, its venison and sweet potatoe

I have done the chicken and rice diet many times when he was sick and it worked well to stop the diarea and vomitting.

There are a few who cook for their dogs

so they would have better suggestions than me, but I'd try the chicken and rice, or hamburger and rice. I don't think that would be enough long term, as far as being nutritionally complete, but for a few days to see if the redness stops it should be OK. Does the food he's been on have rice in it?

That's a good point----

Believe it or not, Bubba will not eat green beans! He is so picky, I could try the chicken and rice diet for a while, but else can you suggest? He is soooo picky, he wont eat much and he only nibbles on his kibble, he is not a chow hound at all! Thank you for you advice!

maybe he is allergic to the preservatives in the dry food

they have to preserve it with something to keep it fresh for an extended period of time. If you have tried different proteins, no grains, and he is still having trouble, maybe you should try cooking for him for just a few days to see if it helps. Then if it still happens you'd know it was envirionmental.
