it's old thouogh so i really am not concerned about scratching it up...as for safe..we have plenty of heavy weight area rugs...and they keep the sliding down...i can't see any problems your bullie would have?!...enjoy ..c.e
Most of our main floor is hardwood and Rosie does fine but I think we may get an area rug for the family room so when she jumps off the couch, it is an easier landing! I worry about her leg since she's had ACL surgery in the past. We also had hardwood in our old house and she definitely scratched the heck out of it with her nails but we didn't care.
We do not have any carpet in our house, except for area rugs. The whole house is hard wood except for the bathrooms, which are marble. My bulldog, Sheldon is 17 months old and is just fine, no problems from the floor cleaner and no problems with his toes, or anything else for that matter. Sheldon has different beds/mats scattered around the house. It seems that he prefers the bare floor and will often sleep on it rather then his bed. He also likes to "zoom" around the house at full speed and knows just how to "slide" on the wood floors so he does not bump into anything. I wouldn't worry about your floors getting scratched. We don't "dremel" Sheldon's nails; he had not caused any damage to our floors. I think your bully will be just fine and you don't have anything to worry about.
I'm sure you'll get a better answer than this, but... when Grover was a puppy, our vet suggested that we put down some rugs for him to play on because his feet weren't forming correctly. We have ONLY hardwood, so apparently, his toes were just kind of splaying. We bought a big remnant at Home Depot and used it as a play surface. Still have it, two years later! But Grover's toes are still pretty splayed. I'm sure it's not entirely due to our hardwoods...
But it can't hurt to have some for a little traction while playing! That's my suggestion based on our experience.

Not sure about hardwood, but linoleum is slipperry for them (fatty little paws ), you should be careful that they don't injure themselves while scooting across the slippery floor. You also may want to look into cleaning your hardwoods with vinegar, to avoid chemicals in cleaners that could be harmful to your pup.
As a side note, you may want to invest in a dremel tool for nail grooming, so the bullie doesn't damage your floors.
hardwood here also...
