I dont think it is some much growing too fast with puppy food, its that Bulldogs tend to put on alot of FAT on puppy food! That has been my experience anyway.
Now that you mention it, I've had several vets recommend keeping a puppy lean based on this idea, too - excess weight + developing skeletal system can = problems down the road.
After reading Sharon's response to your question, I realized I had it turned around. The bone will grow too fast and muscle will not be able to support it. Something like that.
but if I remember correctly my vet said it has something to do with the muscle growing too fast and the bone structure not being able to support it. My vet recommended to start feeding adult puppy food at 4 months of age for this reason. At 13 weeks, I wouldn't worry about it.
22-25% protein in puppies
is fine per the information I've sifted through over the years. A lot of what I've seen out there is 28% or 32% and that's way too much.
Too high of protein leads to low bone density which causes joint problems, arthritis, etc.
Keep protein lower and they're on the right track to the correct bone/muscle mass growth ratio.
And no Pet-Tabs/supplements, etc. unless certain needs have been identified and need to be met.

I think you got it right. It also can cause them a lot of pain.
Good luck

That is another aspect, too

Let me correct myself
