Any ideas on how to help Gracie Mae get into and out of bed on her own? She's less than 4 mos. old and still easy enough to lift in and out, but I'd like to start now getting her to do it on her own. I thought of building some steps and staining them to match the bed, but wondered if there was a better idea? Our bed is kind of high, maybe 3' or so. Thanks for any ideas or info.

whatever you do, don't carpet them in berber carpet, lol. And spray the corners with Bitter Apple. As you can see, Boo started using the stairs as a chew toy the first night. My neighbor is going to re-surface them with that non-skid spray on stuff used for bed liners in pick up trucks.
Go to www.petclassics.com for great pet stairs
My neighbor built one for me based on their design and dimensions, but tailored more to my bed, which also sits very high off the floor.

No matter how easy it looks like your bulldog handles jumping off the bed, DON'T let him or her. My first bulldog died last August after she tore up her ACL while jumping off the bed and while at the vet's awaiting surgery. She easily jumped down for several years, but also it took was one slip as she hit the floor.
Here is a photo of the stairs my neighbor built based on the models on that web site. The main changes I had him make were to make the treads a bit deeper and the risers shorter. Don't recall the exact dimensions, but I think the treads are 16 inches wide by 12 inches deep, and I think the risers are 8 inches high.
I agree
Milo sleeps in a wire crate at night at the end of my bed.. and he will go in there when I say "its bed time" I think he actually feels safe there..

be careful...
Our bullie was about this age when she fell off the bed and broke her leg.
Make her sleep in her OWN bed!
That's the best help I have.

The butt lift
We but life her into bed. She can get down without help. However, it might just be a way to spoil her, since I know that she can probably get into bed on her own (she's done it once or twice) so I don't know if this is a good idea in the long run.
and Gary can show you pictures of his stairs...
they actually made them just for this purpose..but if your handy ..you certainly could make them yourself....ce

cover a piece of wood with carpet or other non-skit material and rig it so it's lodged under the mattress (and to the floor). You can put it on the side of the bed that doesn't look to the door so people don't thin you're nuts.. .LOL!

We use an ottaman...
Don't know if that is spelled correctly, but it works like a charm.
