If so, how do you like it? What type of paper are you using? The printer should come with a package of Paper Pro Plus. I tried several other brands, like Kodak, HP, and Epson. None came out nearly as good as the Canon paper, which is expensive but produces awesome photos. Wait to you see how an 8x10 looks!
THAT IS WHAT I DID
AND IT WORKS FINE. GOOD LUCK
My progress ....
Got printer unpacked, printerhead and ink cartridges installed ... now I'm to the USB cable. Hmmmm. Can I just disconnect my other printer and hook it up there?
Husband isn't home right now to assist.
I'd like to keep using the other printer for text, and use the i850 just for photos. Is that a reasonable thing to expect, or is it easier to use only one printer for everything?
LOL, that's what I tell friends too r.e. presents to give
me. Either Canon paper or 8x10 picture frames. The Canon paper is the only one that has a real nice feel to it. In fact, I recently compared it to the photos I've been taking for years on my 35 mm camera that were developed at a photo lab. Even those feel cheap compared to the Canon paper.
When I used the Kodak paper in my i850, I also kept getting vertical black bars on the photo until I finally figured out that I had to use a special setting in the Kodak program that came with my digital camera.
I believe!
Plan to stick with Canon and have told my husband that if anybody inquires on gift ideas for me in the future (birthday, Christmas) .... Canon photo paper! Don't believe I could ever have TOO much of it.
I took advantage of an after-Valentine's sale at Target and got some very nice photo rolodex (4 x 6), with floral motifs on the front. I'm filling them with some shots of my present and past canine sweeties ... Dolly, Jackpot, Quigley, Steffi, Barkley, Pride .. and Brandy and Max, the Saint Bernards. I like keeping them close to me. The rolodexs are really great!
I agree with Gary
The canon paper is the best. I have kodak and I didn't like it at all. The ink smeared on it and it didn't feel like quality photo paper.
You can use multiple printers
I still have my Epson C80 hooked up and I sometimes use that for text printing. It's a tiny bit faster than the Canon i850 on text printing, but it's molasses at photo printing.
If you only have one USB connection on the back of your computer, or you have two but need to keep one for your digital camera, scanner, or some other piece of equipment, just go to Sam's and buy the Stratitec USB 4-port hub (which also comes with not one but 2 USB cables). I think it's $19.95, but not sure. Lots of stores sell USB 4-port and 8-port hubs, as well as in between. Watch out for Best Buy, tho. Their prices on USB hubs and cables are way too high, IMO. I initially bot my USB hub from BB, but then returned it when I saw what Sam's has to offer. If you don't have a Sam's near you, you can order from their web site.
To hook up to the hub, you run the USB cables from your Canon printer, digital camera, etc. to the back of the hub, and then run the cable that comes with the hub from the back of the hub to the back of your computer (or front, if you have a newer computer with the USB slots in the front).
Don't forget to load your Canon i850 software that comes with it.
Plan to set it up tomorrow .....
Yes, it came with a pack of 4 x 6, and the ink cartridges (which really surprised me, given the cost of the ink alone). I'll sure let you know how it does!
