Does anyone use fish oil supplements to keep your bully's coat soft, shiny and healthy? My pup doesn't have skin issues right now, although the fur by his rump is kind of course but I heard it's good to use fish oil as preventive measure as well.
So far I've found Only Natural Pet Pure Salmon Oil for dogs and cats as well as Icelandic Salmon Oil by Icelandpure.com They both look like great products. If anyone is using a fish oil that they are particularly impressed with I'm all ears!
Thanks!

at 20 lbs he would need 1

Re: i use cod liver....
Thanks for the tip! I also read in a dog food article that it's good to give canned salmon to the dogs. Haven't tried it yet though!

Re: and....
Thanks, Cathy. I ordered the 17 ounce bottle too! But I was under the impression they were only supposed to get the squirt 1 time a day? I feed him three times a day. Now I'm wondering if I should give a squirt with each meal...? He's about 20 lbs....this week!!

not dumb at all....
charlie has a soft cornea problem and my holistic vet recommended to do this....one drop into each eye...its a holistic approach...rather than ointments...the cod liver keeps the eye moist alot longer than moist drops or creams...my new little peanut who is a rescuse has orrible dry eye...this keeps them moist for a longer peroid of time.....
sorry if this sounds dumb, but....
you put the cod liver oil right into his eyes? i didn't realize you could do that. i give both of mine fish oil pills, but just orally. does it help with dry eye or just general eye health? my older girl, pearl (almost 8 years old), has slight dry eye & i'm wondering if maybe that would help ease her discomfort a bit? right now i just put ointment in once daily. also, my younger male, cooper(13 months), had cherry eye surgery when he was about 2 months old & the inner eyelid still gets really red & inflamed (it doesn't pop out, just looks irritated). i wonder if this would help him? i would love to hear your thoughts. thanks in advance!
and....
I got a 17oz bottle for around $18.00 on Dec 9. I used it for 3 dogs for about a month, then I got something different for the other 2. Audrey gets 2 squirts a day, and my other 2 dogs each got 4 squirts a day, so that was 10 squirts/day. I still have about 1/4 left in the original bottle, so with only one dog getting 2 squirts it really lasts a while.

yes
I think one squirt = half teaspoon, so she gets one squirt at each meal.

Norwegian Salmon Oil... yum!
This is what Gretl gets.
It's what her breeder had her on, so I kept with it... it's an enormous vat of pills so it's lasting us a while. Once we're done with it, I'm just going to switch her back to the regular stuff I used to buy at CVS for Grover in the human vitamin aisle.

Re: yes, I use fish oil everday and it
Thanks for the post, Cathy! I've been leaning toward that brand as well. Glad it's been working for you. Did you start off with the recommended dose of 1 teaspoon per day?

they are probably
all the same. This one we get at shows or our local pet store. I saw it on Amazon with free shipping.

I will say this, if you have a picky eater, they will Love their food with the oil on it. At least my pick eaters do...

yes, I use fish oil everday and it
really does make their coat soft and shiny. I like liquid vs capsules and a squirt dispenser for easy measuring. I am using the Icelandpure brand and it's working very well.

Holy wrinkles that's a cute puppy!
He's a cutie pie. Thanks for asking this ? I was just starting to think about adding something to Sanford's food as a supplement as well so this is helpful.
We use human grade fish oil
works great for us and we can share it with him. LOL

We use Grizzly Salmon oil and their food is salmon based. The dogs think it's the greatest topping!! Their coats are bright, shiny, and soft.
