I noticed your post a while back on a question regarding the ears on a show dog.
A dog is broken down using a point system. A judge uses this breakdown as he is going over the dog. The dog with the most points is considered the better dog.
The head of a bulldog is worth more than a third of the total points. The ears are one of the highest points pertaining to the head.
Diesel is not given due allowance for a bad ear just because it was caused due to neglect and not from birth. The judge does not know his history and if he did it would be unfair. Each dog is to be judged on their looks that day in the ring and nothing else.
I have been told not to worry about his ear because he has so many ther great qualities. However given a day in the ring when the judge is having a difficult time making a decision between two dogs, Diesel's ear may be his downfall.
The good news for us is the proper ear is the one that faces the judge when he is stacked profile and when he gets inspected in front I can get him to hold it back or grab the skin at the back of the neck to help bring the ear back. On the down and back I can't control what that ear does unfortunately but we are working on it.
It is pretty cool all the little tricks you can do to get the best out of your dog. At first I thought all these people ever did was walk a dog back and forth in a ring. Boy was I wrong!LOL
Thanks Cindy!
