Drove 175 miles to Pine Bush,NY For Nothing

Was told by the owner of Iris Farms in Pine Bush N.Y.,that they had 2 pups left that were available.
The price we were told over the phone was $1,500 ea,
"cash". Upon arriving I found out the owners were out of state, the person at the farm told me that the owner
has a breeder in Tennesee and that was where the pups parents are...I viewed the pups and picked the one that I liked, when it was time to do the paper work and give payment, she told me that the pup was $2000!,and the other pup was $1800. Sounds like bait and switch right? Well the person at the farm called the owner and she said she never quoted 1500 and I should go to the local bank and get the difference...RIGHT!! Well I took a day off from work and drove 175 miles(one way) to get the shaft. This was my first taste of trying to find a Bully Dog....

I purchased my puppy from Iris Farms In Jan 2003

Hi... I would like to get in touch with you. My fiance and I bought our dog from Iris Farms In Jan. There were only two left. I had a bad feeling about it afterwards. After doing some research, I figured that Sandy and Mike were brokers, not breeders. You were smart, not to buy a puppy from there. Smarter than I was... I do love my puppy, Gracie, but would NEVER buy a dog from there again. Thanks.

Wow

Mike..they are one of the breeders I was looking at for my first Bully..we were also considering taking a trip to see the puppies...I am so glad we did not! The website is very deceiving!!! Looks like heaven on earth at that farm. I am very sorry that you had to face such a disappointment Everyone here is great..and in no time you are going to find a Bully from a great breeder!

so sorry

you drove so far for nothing, but I believe it was a blessing in disguise. They were probably hoping, espcially after such a long trip, you'd pony up the extra cash, but I am glad you stuck to your guns. Now, if everyone did that, they'd be outta business. I think it's a great suggestion from Helen and others to go to the upcoming show in NJ....you might just find your perfect bulldog from a super breeder. Best of luck.

YOU got lucky

"Cash only" should have been MY first red flag where I bought Dyna.
I don't know if some of the breeders on the board might disagree with this, but I think this :
A breeder should want to establish a relationship with the buyer enough to where they would trust that their check would clear.....My opinion anyway...

You are lucky. I bought Dyna from similar circumstances. (She got sicker and sicker and had to be put to sleep. I am going to court over it.)

Kris

PLEASE PLEASE EMAIL ME PRIVATELY

PLEASE EMAIL ME AND WE CAN CHAT SOME MORE ABOUT THESE "BREEDERS". TANK CAME FROM THERE.........TO BE CONTINUED.

Consider yourself lucky!!!!

These people are not breeders.....kind of like middlemen...they get the pups from down south..the 175 mile drive is nothing compared to what you may of ended up with...give us your location, I'm sure there will be plenty of bullie owners here on the board that will email you privately with the name sof REPUTABLE breeders.
Good Luck

oh boy don't even get me started...

but I applaud your courage, and abilitiy to book out of there.......I completely admire you for that!
We could write a book on what "not" to do when getting a bullie puppy...we did "everything" wrong!
we were naive and down right stupid about it!and by the time we were in the midst of all the redflags glaring at us..we had driven 16 hours round trip in one day...to pick up Mojo...and at that point our options were leave him in the dispecable, flithy enviroment or leave without a money exchange to encourage the breeder to not breed ...however there was a broker ready to take MoJo...(or so we were told?)and the pup and love won out...but we know that we have to also take it on the chin for dealing with this guy..and not walking....obviously we would be much wiser and much more careful if(when?!)we get another bullie ....
...and little MoJo does have ,at his young age, no socializing,he had no living siblings, and no contact with his folks except at feedings..which were abruptly ended the day before we arrived...and he needs lots of ahhhhhhh...lets say, patience with his sometimes attitude...firm and gentle love...but the point is ...you were so wise..this board is full of great advice and you obviously are pretty informed too..and I am sure the right puppy is just waiting for you.
One of the great things about the internet is fantabulous caring ,fun and informed boards like this..one of the worst is that anyone can slap up a web site and say anything to make themselve shine...aand sell pupsters and other heartbeats...
....again ...I wish you the best..and I don't blame you one bit for being upset.....may our next experience be one of bullie grins..and a great breeder!ce

Yup...

It is a blessing. God forbid. I know you probably fell in love when you saw the bully you wanted, but just think, you fell in love for a short period of time seeing it, imagine having the bully and later finding out something even worse. Guess what, the RIGHT BULLY FOR YOU IS SOMEWHERE WAITING and believe me, when you get the RIGHT ONE, you and the bully will know!!! Good luck on your new search.... Keep us posted and I would report the breeder tooooooo...
Some people are such JERKZ!!!!!

Re: Drove 175 miles to Pine Bush,NY For Nothing

Sounds to me like you were very lucky the "breeder" folks weren't home...unethical to say the least...and going to Tennesee to "fetch up a pup or two"? I know you are very disappointed to say the least...and probably with an empty hole in your heart that a bully pup was supposed to fill up...but the right breeder with a nice puppy will make the wait worth it...you might have been saddled with a lot more problems than being angry, hurt and disgusted! and with a cost of double or triple or quadruple the original $1500.
Sorry...we are not all like that...not bully people who care about their bullies and the breed in general.
With sympathy,
Lorraine

If those in the NY, NJ, PA areas or close by states would go to one of the shows at the Meadowlands Expo Center, Secaucus, NJ on the evening of the 7th or all day on the 8th, and 9th of Feb. I am sure they could link up with a good breeder and get on their list for a pup.

Helen has a great idea!

I would take Helen's advise here. Since there is a show coming up real soon in her area and yours, please spend the day there and talk with breeders. You just can't beat the oppurtunity to do that and will get some really great leads from that show. Best to you! Web

Report Them to the BCA. What greedy deceitful people.

Email me privately with the breeder's name at amcmanus@wolfblock.com. I want to avoid these people in case I'm contacted when Willow has pups. There are people out there who will purchase pups later this year and then resell them. I've had some suspicious calls from people in a big hurry and demanding to be placed on a waiting list for several pups. I flat out told them that we were keeping the entire litter. Haven't heard from those people since. Sorry about your situation though. Thanks.

I too have a similar story..

I recently found Bully puppies in my area, I was so excited because one rarely finds them close by. I called the lady who informed me she would have to meet me at the grocery store. I asked "Well how do I see the parents" she responded with I could see pictures. She said this is how it had to be because the owner of the pups doesn't allow anyone to come to her house. Very strange, indeed. She also told me that this is a common practice because of the high price of the dogs. Needless to say, I didn't go to see these puppies. I to am going to attend a Bulldog show in hopes of finding a reputable breeder. It truly amazes me how many dishonest, creeps, there are breeding these wonderful dogs.

Fran and Mike

Just be glad you come home empty handed. I have some complaints on them. I won't get into details here with them but they do include some similar things you said amoung other things. I also know the breeder there talking abount in TN, and they are one of the highest rated complaints from a single breeder I have on file(TN BREEDER). You will find the perfect Bulldog, hang in there, it's worth the wait! Web (you can check out our breeders link on bulldogsworld.com for new york area breeders also). Web

Ps

there is nothing wrong with a 1800 or 2000$ as long as they tell you upfront

ITs funny how on there site,

they say "WE ONLY QUOTE PRICING OVER THE PHONE" that why you have nothing to hold them to.

its a good thing they showed you there true colors.

WOW! What a support group! thank you again

I should have post here the many times before that I have come to this site. Tahnk you all for telling me the way to go and keeping my wallet shut! It was tough because I of course didn't want to go home empty handed, and I handled the situation right I just left, dad would be proud.

Mike

Stay HERE for support during your search process

This irritates me to no end.

Whenever you hear bad things about bulldog breeders, it involves scumbags like this. Fran and Mike, sorry you had such an unpleasant experience first time out.

Besides someone who goes by the name "Puppy Gal," (who, in my opinion, is one of the most disgusting sellers of bulldogs I've ever had the displeasure of hearing about), I am constantly appalled by the tactics of some sellers.

Please go to http://www.homestead.com/bulldogsworld/MEMBERSWEBSITE~ns4.html and look over the list of reputable breeders. Drop a note to them and inquire about a puppy. Write to any of the regulars who post here and ask for help. Contact a bulldog club near you and someone will be more than happy to help. Please please please do not buy a puppy from someone who does not come with a good recommendation.

You did the right thing by leaving. I congratulate the fact that you walked away from this with your wallet intact.

rottnbully's picture

good!!

very glad you didn't buy the pup!

check out the bulldog specialties next weekend 7/8/9 in nj. there will be many breeders to talk to there to find a nice pup.

you can always email the webmaster of this board, to inquire if the breeders have complaints against them. i am sure he will see this message.

liz

Thank you

Hopefully we can find one soon,my kids were crushed when I came home today no puppy...

Re: Drove 175 miles to Pine Bush,NY For Nothing

Well, fortunately, You are on this board now, and can be referred to a much more reputable breeder probably nearer your home . Good Luck .

Report this breeder

Contact the webmaster at his e-mail address and let him know who this breeder is. Also, can you contact the attorney general in your state to see if there are any laws about puppymills, maybe deceptive trade practices and/or false advertising. Do anything you can to nail these people.

Blessing in disguise

Although it seems terrible, it is probably better that you came home without a puppy this trip than to have come home with a puppy with health problems that the breeder would not have covered anyway. Just consider it a long trip to learn a good lesson. Good luck with the hunt for your new bully puppy. Take your time looking and ask the breeder any questions that you might possibly have. A good breeder will not mind talking to you about their dogs, puppies, contracts, guarantees, ect. Have you tried contacting a local Bulldog Club to get references?

John
