I just got the book today that somebody (aack can't remember) was reading and had recommended a few days ago... Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats.
I haven't read the entire book, but I have read thru the chapters on feeding your dog (and cat). I have to say that some of it sees pretty intimidating. Making sure to cover all nutrients, fat, protein, carbohydrates, etc...
To those who do this, could you offer any insight? Do you follow a specific recipe? always use the same one, or switch it up? do you use bone meal? nutritional yeast?
Any advice, input, opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I bought bone meal & Animal Essentials Natural Calcium
The bone meal goes in the healthy powder and the calcium is added in the food additionally.

Bone meal
I found this at Health Foods stores in 1 pound jars, and use it in a weaning recipe for puppy mush. But have also found it at Tractor Supply, under its scientific name, as a cattle feed supplement in 50 pound bags.
Re: It was Me!
Oh Thanks!!! I probably will have questions! We have a whole foods near me where I can buy Nutritional yeast (actually had some in the pantry, I use it too!) but I guess I will google the bone meal. No idea where to get that!

So that "recipe" you listed, how long does that last? I think 3 cups a day would work for Chloe, but I may have to play around with it... she could stand to lose a few (5?) pounds.
(I did make her some breakfast this morning... oatmeal, scrambled egg, turkey, nut. yeast! ) she is STILL following me around looking at me adoringly LOL

It was Me!
I think the hardest part is getting the stuff for the healthy powder supplement. I went on Amazon and ordered most of the stuff and some from the links in the book. Once I got all the stuff, I mixed up a batch and put it in a canister. I crock-pot a lean pork loin w/ water. I cube up and boil around 5 lbs of red potatoes and a big batch of oats. I mix in grated carrots and some peas.

I mix it all in a big container then put it in ziploc freezer bags. I freeze part and keep part of it fresh. I've been feeding Winnie approx. 3 c. a day. If you have any other questions you can email me.
Good luck!
Re: You can make the recipes w/o the "healthy powder"
I have made her 2 meals today... tomorrow I am going to mix up a few days worth and then I will add the "healthy powder" as I feed them to her. good idea!

You can make the recipes w/o the "healthy powder"
You could make the Pitcairn Recipes w/o the healthy powder, then just add it in later.

I think the itchies are a precursor to a full blown allergy attack like I had w/ Winnie(hives).
Re: There are links in Dr. Pitcairn's book
Chloe's only real "issue" seems to be sorta "itchy"... which i realize is miserable for her, but not the same as some of the other skin, eye, foot issues others have dealt with. I really think/hope by feeding her some REAL food (using the recipes without bread, corn, wheat) we can rectify the itchiness.

I saw the links, I will check them out, but if I can go by somewhere and pick it up, that's what I'll do.. I'm a "gotta have it yesterday" kinda girl LOL

There are links in Dr. Pitcairn's book
You can look them up online, I got the two forms of calcium from Amazon, both the bone meal and the Animal Essentials. As far as weight-loss for your bullie, the recipes are pretty low in fat so she should drop some Lbs w/o much trouble. I'm doing a variation of the allergy diet to see what mine's allergic to. Then I'm going to start adding other things back in.
