dog food questions....

first question:
on MoJo's dog food bag it says for his 40 lbs he should have 4 cups a day..he's already a chunk...can that be right?

second question...
those who use canned food...
which we are now mixing with Cody's dry kibble and he is eating...thank the big guy in the sky...
but can I give different types..like one meal beef and rice ..and the next chicken and rice..or will I mess up his system..by rotating ?
...both these lovies are eating Science diet kibble. Thats what the vet started them on and gave us two huge bags for Cody...his gift..'cause he said food is any dogs favorite gift...chuckle
...but the canned we have right now is Iams...I don't think we will stay with that ..it's just what they had here in the village ..for me to try and see if Cody could swallow canned....should I prehaps stay with science diet canned...to keep with the kibble..or do you think it matters...
thanks all...ce

thanks Lynn....I can not wait to post pictures for all...

he has a grin that will melts you ..and has certainly figured out happy and what a house is,love to wander around theh ouse.and lay where ever he likes...and has discovered hubbie's chair....
now if he could just get a few small clues about where to potty...but he's still new to everything ...so one step at a time..I'm just thrilled he's eating..and has such love in his eyes....we are indeed blessed...he is a true gift....and I also believe he was meant to be here...smile...ce

Good for Cody

Ce,

It sounds like you're doing everything possible to feed Cody. A Bulldog with a full tummy is a happy Bulldog. By the way, he must also be very content. Dogs that are very stressed do not eat, no matter how hungary they are. We see it at the shelter quite often. Point is, Cody must have a lot of trust in your family and his surroundings. Some things are just meant to be.

Give them all a big smooch

I haven't ground it...but we do soak it then drain the water off

I think the reason the canned mixed with kibble works is because the canned is so pasty and thick that it stick on his tongue when we put it on the middle of his tongue...and gives him a chance to toss it back..and actualy swallow some before it falls off...it's yucky to touch...but he didn't like the spoon...he booked backwards...and the flat wooden tongue depressor that the vet tried to used..well he just bit down and wouldn't release it...chuckle...so hands it is...smile...I'm just thrilled he's getting food in...and that it is staying....smile...
also the canned food softens the kibble if we give it a few minutes...being he doesn't chew...just tosses it back....thanks...ce

Dog food

Ce,

Have you tried grinding Cody's dry kibble? Gladys does not have enough teeth to chew dry kibble, so I put it in a blender and grind it to crumbs. I add water to make a dry paste, she has no problems chewing and swallowing the paste. Just a thought.

Good luck

Lynn K

Ce, I've been rotating flavors for years

I split one 6 oz. can of Mighty Dog over three bowls of dry food. Some days they get turkey and rice, or chicken and rice, or beef and chicken, or sliced chicken, beef, or turkey. It's not much canned food on each bowl, but i figure it gives them some extra taste and variety. Once or twice a week, I slice a turkey hot dog over their dry food instead of the canned food. And of course, fried chicken Fridays. So, my three get lots of variety, tho they would probably prefer to eat peanut butter seven days a week.

Hey Ce......

I would think that if he is eating now and not giving him any upset stomach problems that it would be okay to keep the variety. Thanks for all the updates, it is nice to hear things are going better every day. Hugs and kisses from all of us to all of you, especially from Diamond to Cody!!

food

I only fed Jesse James 2 1/2 cups of food a day and he weighs 58lbs. If I fed him what the bag calls for he would probbly weigh 85!!! I kinda play it by ear, if he acts hungry after his meal, I will give me about an half cup more of just kibble.
As for the canned food, I dont think it would hurt to give him a variety.

CE You busted my bubble. . .

I thought you knew all this stuff. I just found out you are human like the rest of us [smile]
I think the food problem is one of the toughest problems we all face with our bullies. Everytime I go in to Petsmart I look at all the bags again. It's like they are written in greek to me.

I'm not help on that question. But am so happy Cody is doing so great. THANKS AGAIN FOR TAKING HIM IN. We need more angels like you in this world.
