Dog aggressive when woken up..help

Ok my mom's bulldog is pretty crazy! she was a rescue case pretty much and has had a lot of behavioral problems since they got her. Well here recently she has started to get in attack mode or act like she is going to attack if she is touched or woken up.

Example- Mom said she was sleepign in bed with her the other day and tocuhed her with her leg and bumped her a bit and she got up and acted like she was going to go after my mom so my mom went and slept on the couch.

Yesterday she did it twice to my dad first time was on the couch with him and he woke her up and she did it the second time he tried to move a blanket from under her to use and she got up and acted like she was going to attack.

Is there any reason she could be doing this? She is still young maybe 2 years old if that.

I suggested not leaving her on the furniture at all but i dont know if that would solve the problem completely or not

Dread use to do the same thing

and my husband and I would argue about it. I said he needs to be off the bed and DH would argue that Dread just growled because he was startled. We had a trainer come in (for other issues) but the first thing she said was NO BED AT ALL for at least a month and than only if he minded his manners. He got it pretty quickly...any hint of an attitude problem and on the floor he went. We have NO problems anymore.

Mom's reaction is very concerning...

Sounds like someone (a trainer) needs to come in and help your parents nip this in the bud ASAP! This may not be a good dog for them if they don't feel comfortable correcting her. Your mom giving up the bed speaks volumes.

If they don't take control it could be a very bad outcome for the dog. If she bites, she becomes a liability. They would be unable to rehome her and if they gave her back to rescue, they would be forced to euthanize. Rescue can not place a dog with a bite history.

Act fast while all she needs is to learn limits.

Do you know if she was beaten in her previous life, i.e., before

maybe someone would strike her when she was asleep and now she is traumatized by it. If so, perhaps some behavioral training/therapy would help.

LOL unfortunatly

My mom can be timid around aggressive dogs! she has had bad experiances in the past being attacked by a few dogs so when one acts aggressive she doesn't handle it the right way! Which this is the first time she has shown aggression towards either of them since they had her.

I will definitely tell them they need to NOT allow anymore couch/bed privledges!

your Mom let the dog have the bed and went to sleep on the couch

I ahve to just repeat what everyoen else is saying, I would absolutely not allow the dog on the furniture anymore. And I would NOT give up my bed for my cranky dog.

OFF the bed and the couch..is what I would do too..and fast..

I would start that asap..

She would be off the bed faster then she would know

what happened. Zero bed/sofa time, she lost the privledge.

I've had dogs that thought they might want to possess/guard either my bed or sofa from either humans or the other dogs. The attitude doesn't last too long, first growl-a quick/calm "too bad" and they are on the floor.

All of my dogs have bed/sofa privledges but they earned it by being polite.

she was at the vet not to long ago

to get spayed and checked out and they did all those types of tests and checked out ok! she doesn't get startled really by anything else she doesn't act like she can't hear or see??

Third voice for no-bed privileges.

Sorry, its been widely accepted that dogs who have a problem accepting the Alpha role of the human need to be reminded of their status and actions like 'living on the furniture' just confuse the dog. Dog beds can be comfortable and a safe retreat for the pet but I'd definitely stop the couch and human bed now.

My initial insinct was like Tiger's dad

Could she be going deaf or blind? I know what now that Stella is blind, I have to be extra carful when I wake her up. I make sure to talk to her fairly loudly or blow on her before I touch her.

For sure they can get startled if they can't hear of see well.

Next time they take her in to the vet, I'd have those two things checked out.

Could be

Maybe the bully is hard of hearing/seeing too

Tiger did this

At first I thought I was dreaming that she growled at me, but one time I felt my foot getting all wet and whatya know, she was holding it in her mouth. She got over it by me actually getting up at the thought of it happening and telling her no, kicked off the bed. I do feel bad though, it really is because I kick her hard if shes down there. I even rolled on her once, she was too horrified to do anything but jump off then!

I've read some dogs like this is epileptic???

is this true? some place I read that it is a brain disorder and they look like they are sleep walking kind of when they are in this state of mind and it takes a few for them to snap out of it. Their eyes are glazed over and aggressive.
