I have seen the ones on the board before, but I just can't afford a $800-$2000 camera right now. I was wondering if anyone has a cheaper one that they are happy with and would be glad to recommend?

Under $400 and excellent photos. About 10 of us at work have the same model and we use them on scene flights and take a lot of moving pictures from the aircraft as well. Never a problem. It also takes neat little videos with sound.
Software is super easy to use and it's small enough to fit in your purse but the viewfinder is plenty big to see previews of your photos.

wish I could remember the model number, but his flash is just great. I love my Kodak, but the flash doesn't work too great during the last half hour of day light. Any other time, it's great tho.

When I bot it around Thanksgiving, it sold for $499, but Best Buy reduced the price by $50 the following week and gave me a refund. I've watched the price steadily drop since then, most recently to $338 at Sam's, and that includes the $79 loading dock.
Not sure what the price currently is on Ce's model, but I'm betting that it has dropped proportionately, and is now under $300. It also is an excellent camera. Just be sure when you compare the price of her model to the LS443, add on the cost of the loading dock. Since the LS443 comes with the loading dock, it may be cheaper, or just a few dollars extra.
I think the main difference between the two, besides the includion of the loading dock, is that Ce's model is a 3.1 megapixel model, and the LS443 is a 4.0 megapixel model. I could be wrong, but I don't think most people can look at a photograph, except serious photographers, and tell the difference between a photo taken at 3.1 vs. 4.0.
Kodak also just came out with the LS663. Haven't read up on it, so I'm not sure what it has above and beyond the LS443.
The Kodak is a great camera for someone who likes simplicity. With the loading dock, you never have to worry about buying batteries (the loading dock re-charges the camera every time you set it in there). And uploading the photos to your computer is about as idiot proof as can be, which was important to me, lol.
One web site I very highly recommend is www.cnet.com. Any time you are considering buying a tech product, whether a camera, computer, photo printer, big screen TV, etc., go there and read the Product Reviews, especially the "user comments." Regular people just like you post their comments on whether they or happy or not with a particular product (the site also has professional reviews of most products). It's a great source of info and recommendations from people who have had practical every day experience with a product. My problem with professional reviewers is that they get a demo from a manufacturer and maybe play with it for a few hours, then write their review. I prefer the opinions of people who have kept the product and tried it out for weeks, months, or longer.
For example, Jacob recently posted a message about the Canon D10 digital camera. I went to cnet's web site and was amazed to see that 100% of the buyers of the camera recommended it. Most products come in with about 70 to 80 % giving thumbs up to a product, while the rest give thumbs down. That camera is too expensive for my tastes, but while there I also read a review on a Multi Function I was considering. The buyers gave the Canon MultiPass F80 96% favorable reviews. I bot it and just love it. The site is just a great source of info.
And we LOVE it. I'm an amateur photographer with a VERY expensive Nikon SLR... but like you, we can't afford the $1500 camera. (Especially when my Nikon isn't that old!)
But this is GREAT for digital pics, and the quality isn't too bad either! We got it at Best Buy...

if that's what your looking for it's a Kodak Easy Share...DX4330 very easy to use...nice pictures for the novice that I am... Gary has the next step up of the Kodak..we paid 300.00 for it..but if you want the recharger it would be about 100.00 more...I think Gary's was a better deal...hopefully he will have a minute to get in on this...keep the faith and keep your smile...ce
We have the Sony 4.0 megapixel and its the DSC-P9. Great camera, we love it! We were advised that if you want to print your pics then you are best to go with a camera that is at least a 4.0 megapixel. The lower models are still great and there isn't a huge difference, but when printing you will notice more of a difference in quality.
That's the model my vet has -- the LCD screen is awesome
as is the flash. Great camera.
Canon PowerShot S300 Digital Elph

I heartily endorse the Elph.

Morning Ce..........you always bring a smile to my face!
Thanks for the info, and for everything. You know what am talking about. Your kind words are always easy to hear.
I use a Sony CyberShot that was around $230 a year ago.
And we LOVE it.

I have a slighlty used one, with road rash and dents!
lol....mine went down the road in a blaze of glory the other day when it screwed up a perfect picture. so now i got to find one as well.!
I think I agree with you. I have the 3.0 and...
... if the price difference isn't THAT much, I would jump up to a higher mega-pixel.

That being said, all of my most FAVORITE wedding pictures are off of my 3.0 Sony CyberShot! I've never once thought the quality was bad.
You just can't use the Zoom feature. It's a digital zoom, not at optical zoom.
