DO you think Im a bad mother?

Glen and I today thought it would be good to put the doggies outside in the back yard while I try to work...
Today is our first attempt at it, I can't work with Gertie running around the house since she's destroyed half our furniture - plus when I put her in her kennel she barks so loud my clients can hear it on the other end of the phone - so Glen had this brilliant idea to put them together in the back yard while I work for half the day then bring them in in the afternoons... I feel bad because Milo's used to lazing around on the couch all day...

Listen to me I sound so pathetic - they're dogs!!!!
lol!

you the best mommy...

i tired and i think leaving them out is a great idea
smile

Yes I definitely agree

Thanks for the post
Today was the first day they spent together in the back yard and they both seemed to really like it. They played and then slept in the shade... No hole digging or nothing!
I think she's happier out there than her crate for a few hours during the day - she goes bonkers when in her crate and she knows Im in the room next to her. But yes when I am cleaning, or if we have to much company over, or we go out she's always in her crate, she's starting to make it her home now.
Milos crate is our bed! If im cleaning or whatever, I say Milo go on the bed, he sits there for hours and doesnt make a peep! he's perfect lol

I would

teach her to go in her crate when told. If you are having company or cleaning and dont want the dogs to get underfoot or in trouble they need a place to go. I put them down stairs and they know to be quiet.

I have 2 perla beds on in the front room and one down stairs for when they are away.

If you are wanting to get some work done and you can not put them out you need a place for them to go and be quiet and safe.

just my opinion.

re: doggies

As long as the weather is agreeable and you are fenced in and can check up on them, why not leave them outside once in a while. Gertie might need sunscreen because she's so white.

My Grey loves being outside but he'll dig holes, giant ones, so he isn't left out for long, and Spike hates being outside and barks and barks annoying all my neighbors! Both of them are better behaved inside than out, but if it was the other way around, they'd both be out more

Lisa I put my kids outside sometimes.

They will be fine. It will be good for them. Milo will teach all of his tricks..You are a wonderful mother.

Re: shocked and fainting...

Come gets me pweeeze ce ce. my moms makes me comes insisde and fakes me out with tweets. All i wants to do is be outside in my bwak yard chsin teh bwirds and da bweeezzz. Gets me every time with da tweets!! Come get me ce ce

Ce

Now dont let your rubber dingie pop on the way over LOL!
Then again on the way back Milo's so heavy he would sink it lol!
I know so much for them being outside - Im outside as much with them! Kept on missing our work line ring making sure they were ok and popping my head out the window every 30 seconds. It's just so wierd seeing Milo outside, he's the biggest couch potato! I think they are ok when it's the two of them out there, but if one's out alone they hate it

(maybe that means Milo really does like his sister!!)

Crate

Thanks Vicki
We do have her own crate - we put her in there at night, then when we go out for a movie or dinner or something - so she is used to it - should I be putting her in there more often?!

Once she is potty trained we will get her her own bed or let the two of them sleep with us!!

shocked and fainting...

and no couch..okay after I take Milo and Gertie...I'm coming for ya Angus...grin...ce

I am shocked..and appalled! Lisa...that's it .

I'm doning my scuba gear and swimming over I'll be there about midnight and taking those lovies home with me...enoug is enough...!
my dogs hate it outside ..yeah sure they do...i think we all know you well enough to know when you say they will be outside ..that so will you every 5 minutes..I hope you have a window overlooking the backyard..or your going to wear yourself out...lol...ce

PLEASE DONT REPORT ME!

My lil Angus would rather be outhside. When I work at home I leave doors opena nd he goes out and lays in the dirt (his fav. place) and on his bed outside. We also have a lil house outside and he loves it!!! Call me bad mommy 2!!! Angus is not allowed on the couch maybe thats why he would rather be outside!!! OK NOW I AM REALLY BAD,,,,, NO COUCH FOR A BULLDOG!!! HUMMMMMMM. PLEASE DONT REPORT ME!!!

no problem but you should

train her to go in her crate. You are the momma and she needs to learn. It will be easier now then when she is 50 pounds and trying to tell you what to do.....

Also it's going to start getting warmer as the summer comes. Put her in her crate a few times a day weekends too so she gets use to it.

yep your rotten....

how long did ya leave them out side with out going out
10 thousand times:)
I have to say my bulls love stayin out even longer than I will let them...

Julia's picture

NO! Not at ALL! They probably love it out there even more.

I know Grover loves to "go out" and I can't wait to get into our house and get that fence built so he can hang out outside whenever he wants. (When I let him out of course - we're not doing a doggie door.)

Even now, when we go to the house, he'd rather be out basking on the deck than in the house.

So yes, save your sanity - you're not doing a disservice to them at ALL. And maybe, to make up for Milo's missing out on sofa lounging, get him an outside bed? Something to snuggle up in, if he wants?

Julia

LMAO Lynn

Tee hee hee lol!!!
Yes please come be our nanny! You can take Gert out to pee every 20 minutes, make sure she doesn't chew our new furniture, make sure Milo doesn't eat her, make sure that she doesnt poop under the bed where you have to pull the whole bed out to get the turd lol!
Make sure she dont eat to much grass and wood chips! hmmm what else!! lol!!!!
Gotta bathe her every night because of all the mud she gets into, but then you have to bathe milo too cause he gets too jealous - take them on walks every two hours!!!!
Babies Babies Babies! It's all worth it in the long run! On that note gotta run shes eating the plants!

ya it's not hot

Dont worry I am a paranoid friek when it comes to the heat, Im getting central air just for the doggies!
It's really breezy and cloudy lately so they are fine Actually cooler outside than in!

Lisa,

I know everyone does it differently, but heres what I do.

I have two small children and Henry is a big ole boy! He snatches Vienna Sausages (yuck!) right out of their hands...along with toys, etc. I cant keep my eye on him every second because I have work to do too.

I let the dogs out in the backyard in the morning. The kids eat breakfast in peace...I get some work done while the kids are playing. At the same time, the dogs get to play and eat outside. (I put their food and water on the back porch for them.)

They come in at noon when the kids go down for naps (right after lunch) and lounge around inside. When the kids get up (about 2:00 or 3:00) they go outside. They usally need to potty by then anyway. They come back in at about 5.

Point is, I have one set of kids in the house at a time...lol. They do stay outside a good bit of the day while I work though and they seem to enjoy it. Ofcourse when the weather is bad (too hot, wet or cold) then They are inside all day and my day is all turned around and pretty much shot! lol

I dont think you are a bad mother...maybe a little neurotic..lol (just kidding! ) but a great bullie mom

Lisa, you're a terrible Mother-nothing short of abusive

How could you possibly leave Milo and Gertie outside in the warm Hawaii sun. My God, what a stress filled life they have. Do you think you could use a nanny. I have a ton of dog experience.

Lynn K

Not at all

but I wouldn't leave her outside for hours if the temp is above 80 degrees. And since she is still so frisky, you may want to check her water once an hour to make sure she doesn't do what Clovis does, constantly turn over her water bowl.

Look at the future!

Now is the time to give her good habits for the future.
You will have to work a big part of her life, if only to cater for her. So she'll have to learn to behave when you are at work.
If you work each morning, install a habit of a nice walk or play after waking up, a nice meal, then the crate. She will fall asleep! When she wakes up, take her out for a pee, give her a toy, and back into the crate till you are finished! Don't react to crying or barking. Just ignore her till she is playing nicely, then praise her by voice.
Milo is a big boy, he can lay on the coach when you are working (he'll need his sleep now to be fit for this puppy).

In time you'll see she gets the habit of sleeping when you work (off course the above is an example), and some day she'll just fall asleep on the coach.......
Then the habit to sleep when you don't have time for her is there. By the way, we are talking months her, not weeks!

And in no time, she'll learn that when you don't have to work it is time for her!
