Do you put towels or blankets over your wire crates?
Do you do this all the time or only at night?
I haven't yet for 9 week old Guinness (just started with crate on Friday.)
Next weekend we are getting 9 month old Bubba.
What are advantages/disadvantages of covering the crate?
Do you have the cover go all the way to ground or only part way.
Sorry for the many questions, but I didn't use crates with our other bullies.
Thanks for the help.
just a towel
I just drape a towel over Guinness's crate at night.
Re: Covering
Hee hee... maybe it's a girl thing?
Like I said, my basset hound Emily can't stand it! If I can ever get Grover to convince Emily (she's four years older than him!) to stop pushing our buttons and challenging us, I'll definitely send Grover to chat with Gretta.
Maybe she'll appreciate it in colder weather? It does cut down on the draftiness.
Good luck!

Covering
Julia,
Can Grover come over and give Gretta a talking to?
I thought she would like the den idea...sometimes I think she is just like a fresh child that wants to challenge her parents. I still love her, though:)
Yep!
Hi Denise!

We have always covered Grover's crate from the first night we brought him home at 12 weeks. He loves the "den" it creates. And when he was a little pup, it helped keep us "hidden." He wouldn't necessarily see us every time we moved around the house, but we were still able to keep him near us.
We just use a beach towel, and when it's warm and we want him to have some nice breeze, we pull up the sides. Still den-like, but more air-y.
It stays there all the time. He's never been phased by it, but my basset hound yanks anything that sits on top of her crate in with her. Go figure. So she doesn't get a towel. She's also up at the crack of dawn when the sun comes screaming in the window, blinding her! LOL
Good luck with Bubba!

Covering crate
I tried covering Gretta' crate...she always pulled the cover into her crate and would end up not sleeping because she was too occupied with pulling it in and trying to chew it up
I also stopped trying to cover because I wanted her to be able to rest and fall asleep with all of the sights and sounds going on in the house...now..if she goes into her crate during the day for a nap or when it is time for bed she goes in and zonks out even if the tv and or lights are on
Hope this helps.
