Is there a cure for crazy bulldog?
My almost 11 mnth charlie is insane!
He is so wired all the time.. wants to play constantly..jumping runnning..
This am, I got home from work..(I work nights) and let him out of his kennel..he was in his kennel 2 hours! And as soon as the door opened , off he went ..running ,playing , very hyper..(thank god the papilon is runing with him).
I usually take him to the dog park to let off steam.. but its just to early yet .
I was hoping this behavour..playfulness would wear off since he is almot a yr old..but I swear its getting worst!
He is just a hyper guy!
Is he the only crazy bulldog out there..
I need to get him a brother his size..
sue
In the middle of writing this I had to stop and rescue my shoe ..he was flinging it in the air.
i have two left feet.....
when it comes to agility training.....and i swear i saw charlie laughing at me once...when i tripped....and i have trained rottweilers to schutzhund three....agility to me is confusing or i am getting alot older and my brain cells have died....

Work, walks and training!
I guess you have a nice young, fairly healthy dog! The way to control this behaviour is to give him exercise (but not too much, as his stamina will get better and better, and his walks need to be longer and longer).
Enter dogtrainingschool and learn how to control his behaviour. It is fun to teach a dog how to be a nice dog and there are lots and lots of fun things to do. Agility, obedience, rally, therapy dog, tracking etc.
It all starts with basic obedience. Have a look at the performance-page on the website!
You'll notice that your dog will be tired after training, and after doing his homework! You can teach him tricks and learn how to find his toys. The sky is the limit!
Have fun!

Re: thats what i am told the smarter....
It must be the name..LOL..My charlie ..loves to watch the agility classes..
I need to get him into basic training then try him with the beginners agility classe.
I wanted to wait to see how conformation showing is done, but I think he may rather do agility..not sure I can do it though
hazelle = lunatic.
winston gets bouts of 20 min zoomies.. hazelle is crazy-go-nuts almost all of the time.. but she sleeps all night and whenever we are gone.. so i figure it is like leaving her on a charger.
bulldogs ehh!
thats what i am told the smarter....
the more active...charlie is a thinker...and he has no fear...everything is game for him...i was not looking to go into obedience but with charlie i have no choice he is just to active and game for things....
i am almost excited to see where he scores in his obedience trials once we get in their...i feel we will be in the top four all the time...thats how active he is....
I prefer "overly enthusiastic"
which I have one of! I like to count myself lucky that I have a healthy, active bulldog that I can do anything with. That is not to say that somedays I don't think to myself... "Remember how you were supposed to be a couch potato?"
I think the best solution is exercise and lots and lots of mental stimulation. Maverick we could exercise what seems like forever and he doesn't wear out, but getting him into obedience, rally and just starting agility and he'll sleep very soundly after! IMO it's the smart ones who tend to get themselves in more trouble!
Our friend Marvin is a crazy man too
Our pals bought their bulldog based on Stella's laid back personality. Boy, did they get a surprise. Marvin has just crazy amounts of energy. They would even bring him running with them - and he loved it. He also got to go to work with his dad, so could hang out in his shop all day. Hardly ever slept.
Not sure what the cure is - but he sure sounds like fun!
Jake is the same way
and he is almost 2

oh you have not meant charlie....
wild is his middle name...he is the dog who jumps off the bed and hits the wall every time...if i had him before wilson i would of never had another bulldog....and charlie is a rescue with sb on top of it....

my only solution we are now training for rally and agility....two to three nites a week....this boy loves agility....the whole class goes hystrical when he goes tru the tunnel....he is in love with it...and he comes to work with me every day i am a groomer so he gets to play with the clients all day and still has more energy than 5 dogs....
charlie....

here is a pic I just took..the difference in size between his sister ,his main playmate.. and he.

They love to wrestle, but I get too worried and stop it constantly..
Re: I'm far from and expert, but
I was thinking of getting charlie a brother his size, he has 2 toy dogs here,,the 5 pd pap will play with him, and she like it rough, but I have to stop it constantly cause they get carried away!
I was wondering if adding another dog, one he can play with and me not worry, might help him..or will I have 2 crazy dogs on my hands LOL
Got to love that crazy boy
I'm far from and expert, but
Wonder what ya feed the dog, could that make a difference? [experts chime right in please] Buddy was a handfull. He's 9 months. Even with play, and walks, he still wanted to play rough with Dottie, and "give her a hug". We got Brother, he's 4 months, cause we thought Buddy needed a doggie friend to play with. The dog next door is old and aloof. It worked for us. They are both asleep right now. They are happy, I'm happy They play rough, and wrestle and growl over a ball or rope, but we always keep an eye on them as the puppy is so little compared to Buddy.

Crazy dog will be much calmer in about a year.
By the time your bullie is an old dog, tap dancing won't wake it up.
jumping!!!!!! what problems.....
that has caused me....he never jumped on anything but the bed before....now look out....he jumps on my kitchen counter my tables....my grooming table... jumping has opened a whole new world for charlie....its a fad i know and he will cease to find it so fun....so when i catch him on my counters as he just sits their looking at me....i just tell him what a good boy and place him down on the floor....

he is having a ball over this training...i am not being overly stern becasue i want to be ready for the indoor nov shows....we may be ready sooner but i am in no rush....
also i want to track with so i need to be slow and consistent....he does his thing but i am not cleaning everything up as perfect....but again he is only a year...and as you said fun is first...
When you find it, I'll donate to the cause! LOL...

I just started Maverick in Agility Class
And we're having a ball! (not too mention he slept for a couple days after). Though he is a bit out of shape, having trouble getting him out for walks in the super cold.
Maverick and I started competing in Rally last year and had a blast! I really recommend it to anyone who is thinking of trying something. It's definitely alot less intimidating than the obedience side for those of us just getting into performance, and trust me it's exhausting.
As for the obedience side, Maverick and I are going to step up to some stricter training this spring/summer and hopefully making some progress that way. My one and only goal really is not titles, but to have fun with my dog, and your dog will show you the way based on what they prefer to do (I see many agility trials in my future).
One warning with agility though (and those more educated than me can pipe in), I would be VERY careful doing any jumping, etc. while they are still growing. Agility is alot of impact on the joints and you don't want to cause any injuries to young dogs. I, personally, waited until Maverick was 2.5 to start agility (though he has jumped, etc. for Rally), but I tend to ere on the cautious side.
My Angel is non-stop too...
She grabs things on the edge of the kitchen table & runs like hell. Then she's under the table with it in her mouth playing the best game of keep away ever.
She's way to busy to be cuddly.
